Today's dailies are brought to you by Lesley, Team T&D, Melody, Team R&B and yours truly. Lesley's Ka'ena update is from Wednesday and is part two of the dailies.
Team T&D did the Ka'ena Point Trek today and crossed paths with Lesley while out at 10 minute beach. The three of them were treated to a show between RO40 Ka'ena, RL74 Kami and RL98 Lina. The three critters were in the water playing together, of course Ka'ena much older and bigger than the two girls, he was being a good Uncle and being gentle with them.
From there Team T&D hiked out to the point and didn't see any other seals. So on their way out they
stopped to spend some time RL42 Leia and P03 Puka. Mr. Lefty RG28 decided to come back and hang out with them. He better not bother Mom or she going to go after him good.Team R&B went a west side and their initial check they didn't find any seals. But on their next check they found Miss Kala RH76 on her seal inlet spot snoozing alone. When they made a final check of the area Kala was gone due to the rising tides.
While observing Kala they heard a familiar sneeze. They looked around and didn't see anything, then there was another sneeze. Looking again there was a seal hidden in the rocks. It was R407 Kawika who again snuck in some how with out them seeing or hearing him arrive. He remained on the rocks in spite of the big surf rising.
At another west side location they were looking across the rocks, the water where there were lots of people and trucks. They noticed some movement and sure enough there was a seal. They studied the best they could from their view, then the seal galumphed up on the rocks slowly with a little help from a couple of surges from the ocean. Then Team R&B could see it was RN14 Kalani, his natural bleach on right side was visible. He positioned himself so he was hidden from view which was good with so many people around.
Melody was with Kaiwi and Loli'i P02 late morning today. When she arrive they had been snoozing. A
little bit later Loli'i was getting restless doing a lot of flipper stretches doing his best to wake up Mom. After a few minutes of snuggles they went out for a swim. It was a quick swim, but seemed Kaiwi was letting the pup lead the way. It wasn't too long before Loli'i wanted to go back to the beach for a snack. Mid afternoon they went for another short swim and as the king tide was coming in they moved further up the beach almost under the Naupaka. Melody left them shortly after that.I went to observe Rabbit Island today for over an hour. Although there were five critters on shore I only saw their butts for much of my visit. At LPB was weaner RP24 who finally rolled over exposing her weaner belly, bright new tags.
Between the 2BS and 3BS was a unknown, who I believe was a female when she briefly showed her belly. Her size was between a juvenile to subadult. She also had two very bright tags.
Past the 3BS toward RRB was a smaller female, light yellow belly older coat with some green and two tags. She was about 15 feet to the left of Aukai RL12. Aukai was laying on her belly with her left side facing me. I only got a quick glimpse of P04 when Aukai lifted her head, otherwise the kid was completely blocked from view the entire time.
