6-14-2014 DB's Dailies: Buster@BH, RIP,Kolohe,Kainoa&Pua@RI, Ka'ena,Luana&UU@ KP, R5ay@Bathtub Beach, Laie

At 0625 I found what would prove to be Buster (RV08) doing 5 minute dives at Blowhole. He remained there all day.

At 1030 I found RIP (RR70) & Kolohe (RW22) together at the far left end of the beach on Rabbit Island. I also found Kainoa (RW04) fronting Left Greenery on RI.

On a pan at 1052 I found Pua (RF34) just hauling out to the left end rock flats.

Gayle called at 1138 with the report of Kaiwi (RK96) at the Kokee Flats, Portlock.

Marilyn & Lesley did the Ka’ena Point trek today. Marilyn called at 0945 with the report of Ka’ena (RO40) at the Runway, and Luana (RN58) outside the Main Pool . She would later haul out, and at 1041 Marilyn reported Kerby (RW08) joined her.

At 1039 Marilyn advised of the arrival of an U/U to Kerby & Luana, and all three entered the water.

AT 1303 Marilyn advised that they found Luana just hauling out to Hidden Beach, KP. Luana was said to look a bit tired on her haul out.

Dana called at 1035 with the report of an U/U at Bathtub Beach, Laie. At 1645 she called to  day that she’d gotten tag confirmation of R5AY.  oh I wish there was a picture... wonder how she's doing... are we going to have a pup?

End of day email from Team Billand brought news of a rare “skunked” day.  wish that meant that Team Billand actually got some rest.... but I am sure the spent the day trudging through all the sand. The only good news, they didn't have to fight off the crowds.

8-17-2013 DB's Dailies: Irma&Kea@Irma's&AD, Kaiwi@BF, Kolohe&Pohaku@PC, M&M&RIP@KCG, R5AY@Laie

We arrived at Irma’s at 0600 to find Irma & Kea (R010)(D#44) 30 ft west of the AD Wall, basically where we’d left them last night. They did at feed at 0610, and then with Kea in the lead they moved down and into the water. The swam outside to the white water, and Irma returned to usher a struggling Kea to the shallows of the tide pool, and then she turned back out to sea and abruptly departed. Weaning occurred at 0734. Kea played in the tide pools on the Irma’s side of the wall until hauling out at 0950, whereupon Chad and Michelle captured him and with help from volunteers transported him to a tide pool, 100 yds east of the AD wall. A new SPZ was established and he was lolling in a tide pool when I departed at 1100. Kea spent the day in the tide pool, venturing near the open waters near the tide pool only once, and returning to the shallows.

At 0816 Jack "at the bay" reported a drive thru critter. There was no other info.

At 0823 Team Billand reported Kolohe (RW22) & Pohaku (RO28) at Paradise Cove. Pohaku’s molt continues. Vikki report the usual crop of idiots. Kolohe departed at 1930. The Billand dealt with divers and the same ol' party line crap about seals stealing all their fish, blah, blah, blah.

Also at 0823 the Billands advised that M&M (R020) was at Kalaeloa Campgrounds, She would be joined by RIP (RR70) at 1209. The Billands also advise that M&M has begun her molt.

The Billands responded to a call about an animal at Tracks but the animal was gone when they arrived. They did however get a report & a photo of the animal being harassed by a male beach goer idiot.

Email from Dera, provided shots of R5AY in Laie today. Thank you Tati for the shots.

At 1248 posse member Alan Hong reported a small animal on the Buster Flats side of Lanai Lookout. It would prove to be Kaiwi (RK96).

2AW (thank you Ken Tingman)

Divers at paradise cove.... Kolohe's little head is way in the background just left of center
Photo listed as unidentified unknown... at Tracks
Same with this one... although from this it looks like someone is way too close

7-16-2013 DB's Dailies:Irma & Pup @ AD (D#12), Buster@SB, Ewa Girl & Benny@WSK, 2AW@PFS

At 0600 we arrived at AD’s to find Irma & Pup (D#12) already in the tide pool.

A witness said they had entered the water at 0550. Once again it was rough conditions with a rising tide, so there wasn’t much of a pool there, but the pup handled just fine. They hauled out to the water line at 0806 and attempted a wet feed, but with the wave action it just didn’t work, so another move up was required. They did a feed from 0808-0830. They attempted a snooze session but again were being worked by the shore break so Irma lead the way back to the tide pool where they did another water session from 0855-0940. They had just hauled out to a couple of body lengths above the water line when I got another call at 0957. Log entries show lots of snooze time, and 5 additional feeds. They managed to get wet a the water line, but no full tide pool swims were indicated.

At 0957 Ocean Safety called with the report of an animal just hauling out to the east end of Sandy Beach. When I arrived at 1004 I found Buster (RV08) with his adoring hordes nearly standing on him. I got him cordoned off, and he has remained the rest of the day. Buster rolled to the sea at 1810.

Despite 2 Rabbit Island checks I came up zero again today.

At 0804 Team Billand reported Ewa Girl (RS00) once again at Wind Sock. At 1430 the Billands advised that Benny (RE74) had joined Ewa Girl.

At 1230 they reported 2AW at Pray For Sex.

Donna called at 1622 to advise that she had spent quality time with Kekoa (RK72) and U'ilani (RN36), together at the Reef Runway. Check the blog in the morning for her shots.

7-13-2013 DB's Dailies: Irma&Pup(D#9)@AD, Kaiwi@SC, Buster@SB, RIP&Pohaku@Secret Bch

At 0600 we found Irma & Pup (R010) (D#9) already in what would be the tide pool except at this point in the tide there was no tide pool. Witnesses available said they were already in the water when they arrived at 0540. They remained there until hauling out from 0655-0710 for a feed, followed by a snooze from 0714 until 0750. At 0857 with the pup in the lead they began moving down again, doing another water session in the now high tide , tide pool at 0808. I had to make a Sandy Beach run, but when I got back at 1042 they were technically still wet, but on the fringe of the tide pool doing a feed.  A check of the log book showed at Irma & Pup did another 2 hr swim in the tide pool, and did 2 more feeds.

At 0814 Team Billand would call with a report of 2 animals at Secret Beach, KoOlina. Per Karen Banes at 1038 it would prove to be RI (RR70) and Pohaku (RO28).

At 0852 posse member Susan called with the report of an animal at Spitting Cave. Gayle would confirm the Kaiwi (RK96) ID, at 0953.

At 0951 Ocean Safety called to report an animal just hauling out to the east end of Sandy Beach. When I arrived at 1000 I found Buster (RV08) on the beach. I got him cordoned off and he has remained the rest of the day. Buster departed at 1734.

At 0915 Marilyn called from the Waianae side Ka’ena Pt trail where she and Lesley found R912 at the 20 min mark. When they got to the point at 1114 they reported Kerby (RW08) at the runway, Ka’ena (RO40) at Ka’ena’s Pool, and RL42 on the beach at Ka’ena’s Pool. On they way out at 1205 they found that Benny (RE74) now with R912.

At 1010 Team Billand called to advise of an animal at White Plains. It was confirmed as Haupu (RB24).  Haupu departed at 1500.

At 1218 Cianna called with the report of an animal at Maili Pt cove. At 1342 Marilyn & Lesley would confirmed the 2AW ID.

Team Billand called at 1411 to advise that Kolohe (RW22) had been at Maili Pt, at yesterday’s location, but had entered the water and was foraging off shore.
