05/09/2021 Sunday (part two) Happy Mother's Day

 

Our newest mother Kaiwi is showing all of us what makes a good mom. It's been 2 weeks and already she and her pup P02 are venturing further and further out and diving deeper.  Of course all this activity has kept the volunteers on their toes resetting their protection zones. Each day P02 is getting stronger, keeping up with Mama Kaiwi. They've been spending more time down by the Natatorium wall particularly when the surf is up and rolling. 

And as any good mother Kaiwi gets angry with her baby boy but

within a few minutes all is forgotten and there are sweet kisses.  (Thank you Melody and Leighton for sharing these beautiful photos).

On a personal note it has been one of greatest pleasures watching some of the old time Momma with their pups. To mention a few that are no longer with us, there was of course Ewa Girl, Irma, Honey Girl, Pohaku, and M&M.  They have given us a new generation of Moms that I pray have many many more pups.
