Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:50 to 2:40 pm and there were five seals seen during that time.

On the Lanikai side of LPB was weaner RT19 (PO8):weaner size, shape and color, two red tags and light male belly. RT19 is smaller than RT90 who was not seen today.

In the back middle of LPB were two seals:

Adult Female: adult size, new coat and two red tags.

Adult Male: adult to sub-adult size, tan male belly with a fair amount of green and several scars on the ventral side.

There were two snorkelers in the wave wash of LPB, but they never got out of the water.

Out on Rocky Right Beach were two seals near each other. Marilyn had a difficult time deciding on the size of them so she labeled them both as sub-adults.

Sub-adult Male: sub-adult to adult size, medium gray male belly and two red tags.

Sub-adult Female: sub-adult size, older coat with lots of green on the ventral, female belly and two red tags.

Posse pal Kathy is visiting Kauai and was lucky to have a seal on the beach by where they were staying. From her photos it looks like the tag is F30. Not sure who the critter is but most likely one of Kauai's residents.

Team R&B had a very slow day, they were out and about searching and chatting with folks but spotted no seals.

Finally at the cliffs they were thrilled to see one seal. It was a male, and thankfully the waves would roll him over. That's when they ID'd their boy RH32 Kaale. He is looking green perhaps ready to molt sometime soon.

The only other sighting they had today was unfortunately a dead shark. When they were at Kahe they spotted an animal floating thinking it was a dolphin, but when they spoke to one of the divers he informed them it was a shark

They informed the lifeguard, fearing it would bring more sharks in, but the dead shark floated further out to sea.

8/17/2017 Monk Seal Dailies: Ka'ale, UU@Rabbit Island, News from Kauai and Rocky RH58

Today's Dailies are brought to you by Team Billand, an update from Gayle, Kauai News from our pal Val and NEW contributor to our blog photographer Melody Bentz who spent endless hours with Kaimana and Rocky.  FYI, there is still no news from Ka'ena Point. 

Team Billand's only find today was Ka'ale RH32 snoozing all alone this morning. He remained for the day during the super high tide.  They searched from Iroquios to Maili and found no seals, well Barb sorry to day your timing was off today. 

Team Billand was hopeful when spotting a yellow sign and check to see if there was a seal, but NO... it was an old monk seal sign turned into turtle signs for eggs.  Cool Recycle/Reuse! 

Gayle didn't send photos but did check Rabbit Island and spotted one Unknown.  She checked for Right Spot but no luck.

Our pal Val sent an amazing photo of three seals resting on a beach on Kauai while she was doing net patrol. She identified them a RK22 foreground, RV18 in the middle and RF30 at the end.  If you remember V18 was just recently on Oahu, and is back home.  To quote Val "Life is good when ya do good."   

With GREAT excitement photographer Melody Bentz spotted Rocky at Iroquios Point early evening  and estimated she had been there for a few hours based on no sign of her wallows from hauling out.  Melody reported her looking good, then and a lot of algae. After being there for 30 minutes she hauled back into the water.  When Melody left she was foraging along the rocks in the cove... which means she'll be putting on some weight soon.  Thank you Melody!

11/24/2015 DB's Dailies: Kolohe@Rabbit Island, DB, Benny@White Plains, Team Billand, Right Spot@Moku Nui, Toby

At 0700 I found a 100% molted Kolohe (RW22) snoozin’ at the log, in the Morning Glory, 40 ft left of 1BS. He would later move down allowing the ID. Both Gayle and I did passes through the SE quadrant today, and he was the only find.

Team Billand checked in at 0651 with an overnighted Benny (RE74) at White Plains. Mahalos to Warren, Zuly & Luke. It appears that Benny is going to do another overnighter.

 At 1340 a Donna text brought shots of an approximately 20% molted Right Spot (R016) at the Mokes today. Malahos to Donna & Toby from Kailua Sailboards&Kayaks !

 In the Yesterday’s News Department, Our Pal ValMail, from Kauai brought the latest word on a the whereabouts of Squinty (R330). He is a regular to those hearty souls who venture to Ka’ena Point. He had last been seen on Oahu on 9-5-15, and was documented back on Kauai on 10-2-15. That was the last word until Val’s report of R330 in the company of a young female RF30, and young male RN30 yesterday on Kauai. Thank You Val..... Ya’ Done Good !!
