07/31/2022 Happy 22nd Birthday Rocky RH58

Happy Birthday Rocky. Word is the crowd at the beach sang Happy Birthday! Thank you Melody for sharing the photos.

07/31/2022 Sunday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕   I also included in a separate post Rocky's 22nd birthday celebration!

Team R&B had a very slow seal day. They had only two seals today.
At one west side location they found RP30 Puka.
They observed a celebration today Sovereignty Restoration Day.  The Hawaiian Kingdom celebrated on July 31 and still celebrated by Native Hawaiians.
Later they were able to get to the bay and found RM31 Kai.

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:30 to 2:00 and there were four seals on Island.
Weaner PO7 Mahina was on the Lanikai side of LPB. She spent all of her time snoozing.
Marilyn first saw weaner RQ76 Malama at about 1:05 among the waterfront rocks between 1BS and 2BS.She is really hard to distinguish from the rocks around her. It does appear that she may have been going  up into the dunes at night based on the seal tracks.

On the 1BS side of LPB was RK37 Hui'a. Subadult female, new coat with a light female belly, two red tags and NB on her lower left side.

Initially on the waterfront rock flat in the Middle Cliff area was a S/F: subadult, new coat, a light female belly and two red tags. She is possibly the same seal Marilyn saw yesterday in the same spot.
At 12:45 Marilyn realized that she had disappeared from the Middle Cliff area. At 1:10 it appears she hauled out in the middle of LPB.

07/30/2022 Saturday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

At 6:20 am Team R&B noticed that Kaale RH32 was foraging in the outfall and was alone. He would venture out of the outfall and then came back in. He was munching on something, they couldn't figure it out what it was but he was munching. They left to get junior sealette.
They returned and Kaale wasn't in the outfall. But they did find him trying to snooze on the rocks. He was alone but kept looking at something and kept turning. Team R&B started to scan the area and came back to find he left the rocks. Guess he was still hungry and returned to the outfall.

Team R&B went to another west side location and upon arrival someone had started yet another fire,
this time it was a 55 gallon drum, which someone puts out for all to use.  Such a shame so many fires.
They did find on the rocks little RP30 Puka fast a sleep.
Later they made another check and RP30 was still snoozing in the exact same spot.

They also checked the bay and found RM31 Kai in the company of RL20 Kalua. They met up with an old seal friend and was delighted to see her. They talked seal story about Benny, Pohaku and others. Always good to bump into an old seal bud.

Next Team R&B arrived at another site and saw a seal taking off. They got a few shot and managed to IF RL42. They lost side of her, not sure which direction she went.
They looked all over the place and finally as they were going home they spotted a seal on shore. They pulled over and it was RL42 Leia. People were thrilled to see her, some were a little close but left her alone.

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 11:45 to 2:00 and there were four seals on island today (and three 2 legged beasts.)
Initially in the Middle Cliff area was a S/F: subadult size, new coat, light female belly and two red tags. At 12:23 the S/F was scared into the water by a net fisherman on the island. About 5 minutes later, Marilyn thinks the same seal hauled out on LPB.
Near SRI was a S/M: subadult to adult size, older coat, brown male belly, and two red tags. Marilyn thought she spotted a scar on the right rear side which would suggest RK24, but the ventral side seemed darker than RK24's.
About noon Marilyn located weaner RQ76 among the waterfront rocks between 1BS and 2BS. She did not react when the three people walked by her.
At 12:51, weaner PO7 hauled out on the Lanikai side of LPB. She might have hauled out earlier, but the three people had been collecting opihi and throwing net in that area. PO7's applied bleach was visible today.
Since landing in Rabbit Island is not allowed a call was place to the DOCARE hotline.

07/28/2022 Friday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 11:30 to 1:05 and there were a total of four seals.
Further Lanikai side of LPB after she hauled out at 11:55 am was weaner PO7 Mahina. She is still hefty and Marilyn was able to see both her N1 applied bleach and the tag on her LRF.
About 30 feet Makapuu of her was weaner RQ76 Malama who had just hauled out when Marilyn started viewing at 11:30. She went into snooze mode, but later moved into a depression in the beach.
In the middle of LPB was a subadult to adult male, older coat with a green male belly and two tags. Marilyn saw a scar on the the seal's right rear side which makes her think this was RK24 Wawamalu/Bruno.
Not too distant from RK24 labeled as an Adult Female (AF): adult to subadult size, new coat, lighter female belly, and two red tags.

Team R&B started their day nice and early and found Kai RM31. He was on the rocks snoozing doing just fine.

Off to another west side location they found Kai's brother Puka RP30. He was just coming up at seal inlet and was alone. He was watching out for all the crabs scurrying on the rocks nearby.

Next stop they saw a seal foraging in the outfall. They studied and were able to ID RL20 Kalua. They weren't sure if the little bugga stole any fish.
Lastly they spotted a seal moving up on shore. They went to check it out and there was RL42 Leia, she was alone today.

Along their travels today they saw turtles basking on a beach. And watched as some surfers caught some big waves.
