Late Monday Post 6/29/26

Team R&B and I had a disconnect last night and I didn't see their email until this morning. Of course I have to post because its all about Momma Rocky and PO11.

Team R&B got to the pup site and there weren't too many people around. The seals were on the rocks sleeping after a feed.

PO11, Rocky's daughter woke up, galumphed to the end of the rocks, turned to look as mama as if to say, I'm going Mom! Rocky sonar went off and woke up to bark at the kid. She didn't stop, PO11 went into the water to explore. Checking out the seaweed, rocks and possibly tiny fish.

Then the kid headed back for another feed on shore. For some reason Rocky suddenly left into the water and of course PO11 followed with joy. 

Team R&B thought there might be another seal further out then closer to the site. The seal never landed and they weren't able to get a photo or ID.

Rocky took PO11 very quickly out of the zone, like 400 feet to the left. An area not protected. So Team R&B helped the volunteer move signs. Rocky kept going for an hour and half. Finally she landed waay to the left by the trees. The group was working nonstop to keep up with her.

Team R&B had a shovel to dig holes which helped a lot. A man who might have been one of the fishers came to help too. Okay finally Mom and Pup went to sleep. Team R&B left at 2 pm exhausted.  They were grateful for the mocha that Hiroko brought to them.

June 6, 2026 Saturday's Dailies

Well it doesn't happen often but there were no seals to report today.  

Marilyn did not go to the pier and Team R&B got skunked. 

They went and checked all their usual spots and didn't see any seals at all. Lots of people but no seals.

Seems the seals are busy checking out other parts of the island. Hopefully they'll be back to the west side.

April 10, 2026 Friday's Dailies

Team R&B💕was ready for a day of searching, but the heavens opened up with a day of heavy rains. 

(mind you the island was on flash flood warning)  They took advantage of a minute clearing, so they went out. Then the rain came again, so they waited in the car.  It stopped again and they saw some chickens come into the area, so they went out to look at the beach. There was Miss Kala RH76. They didn't stay long, as they got some sad news about a family member. They said a prayer while with Kala and then it started raining again. They made it to the car and went home.  I just want to extend my deepest condolences to them.

March 21, 2026 Saturday's Dailies

Well this doesn't happen very often but there were no seals seen by Team R&B💕

Yes they were out there looking but got skunked.

Finally it was a nice day, blue skies, no rain and so much better than the last two weeks.

They searched along the  coast and didn't find any seals.  The water is worse with so much debris and brown. 

The highlight of the day was when they saw the Iwa Birds flying so high. There were eleven of them and as much as Team R&B were enjoying them they soon disappeared.

They drove to Keaau's where the road was blocked due to damage caused by the storm.

On the way back they looked but still no seals.  

At Makaha the shoreline was so bad, littered with trees and debris floating around. The water was really brown and yet one lady went out surfing.

They headed over to plains hoping for good luck, but the it was closed off. That's when they called it a day.

January 4, 2025 Sunday

There were no sightings to report. The island is under heavy rain and flash flood conditions.

That doesn't mean Team R&B didn't try. They were out there sitting in the car hoping the rain would let up long enough to take a quick look.

We're expecting more heavy rains for the next couple of days, so we shall see what happens.

December 14, 2024 Saturday's Dailies

Team R&B's search today was with some challenges. Their team has grown with junior sealette and now a new addition with their 3 year old pup. 

They headed out and their first find was at Pokai. They found RH76 Kala alone. She was resting peacefully on the edge of the rocks.

They headed over to Kahe and didn't find any seals on the rocks, just a fisherman.

But then they spotted an adult seal swimming pass them. They did their best to get some pictures, but their little pup was not cooperating which made it more challenging. The seal never landed, just kept swimming through all the people in the water. The seal was adult size, clean coat, no scars that they could see.

Heading over to tracks they saw a bunch of folks on shore taking photos. Well it was a big fat seal on shore. Team R&B couldn't tell if there were tags, and think it was an adult male. The seal was very aware of all the people hanging close by. They reported this seal as an Unknown Adult.

Team R&B wanted their little pup to see the seals and the dolphins. But the three year old had plans of his own. So Grandma got to watch the dolphins for a few.

They have been so lucky over the years to have junior sealette with them learning and participating in the search. It's going to take some time to train the newest edition.  Meanwhile he was busy with his truck excavating the sand.

Marilyn did not make it to the pier today. 

Despite Team R&B checking for seals until 3:00 pm today, they came up empty.  Who knows what they are up to.  

While looking for seals Team R&B did watch the surfers enjoying the waves. They also watched this sweet little bird.

June 17, 2023 (part 2) A Tribute to Da Benny

Today marks one year that we lost the infamous Benny RE74.  Those of us who got to experience him truly understand what a character and how special he was.

Team R&B met him back in 2007 and he was always a special seal for them. They learned early on he was a character and he was a big Kahuna!

Aloha Good People

I hope you are all doing well and safe at home.  I can start today's dailies with confirmation of yesterday's unknown as Rocky RH58. She was ID'd by several posse members by her natural bleach on her flipper.  The other piece of information is yes she is looking mighty big and good chance she is most likely pregnant but isn't due until late summer.  SO hang onto you hats and hopefully this stay at home order will have lightened up by that time.

A little nostalgia for today, looking back to December of 2011 when KP2 aka Ho'ailona returned back to the islands to live at the Waikiki  Aquarium. There were so many Aunties and Uncles that looked after this little boy and we were all thrilled to have home.  Here are a couple of photos from Team Billand visit with him.  You can clearly see the love.

In today's news department there were two critters seen while out getting some fresh air. ;-)

04/17/2020 Stay At Home (25) Flash Back Friday

Aloha good people.
Team Billand sent some photos from previous post. Some of them are classics. So in honor of these photos I'm starting Flash Back Friday (at least during these times).


Also if you haven't guessed already Benny is Team Billand's favorite seal. He was their first male seal they looked after back in 2007. They were out fishing and spotted him, thinking he was a diver, much to their surprise it was a seal. 
Over the years they fell in love mostly because he is a strong male, a fighter when it comes to the females. He doesn't think twice about hauling out on a crowded beach right in the middle of the action. He's survived hookings and surgery that saved his life.
But most of all he's very comical, like finding the playboy magazine in a tide pool and going fishing.
Benny will be 18 this August.
