6/2/2014 DB's Dailies: Kea@BH, Kainoa&Pua@RI, RK36@SC, Kolohe@PC,U/U@RR, Meli&Kaikaina@TB, Nihoa@GR, Ka'ena,RL42&Luana@KP

At 0620 I found an overnighted Kea (RN46)(0620) in the cove on the Sandy Beach side of the Blowhole Lookout. He was gone on my 0910 check, however I found him there again on my 1130 recheck. He has remained the rest of the day.

At 0645 I found Kainoa (RN04)(0958) fronting Left Greenery on Rabbit Island. He remained at that location all day.

At 0750 I found RK36(0828) doing 5-7 minute dives at Spitting Cave. In video footage I’d received from posse member Melanie overnight, I thought I saw the notched hind flipper of RK36 from yesterday, but it was still inconclusive. The ID today was solid, based on his right side “C shaped scar” behind the RFF, and his single right red tag. He had last been reported at KP on 4-26-14. His last SE quadrant sighting was on 3-17-14 at RI.

At 1343 I found Pua (RF34)(1343) fronting 2BS on RI.

At 1010 the Billands reported a call about an animal at Paradise Cove. They would confirm the Kolohe (RW22).  Dana reported his departure at 1400.

At 1041 the Billands called to advise that Eileen had reported an U/U with a scar above the left eye at the Reef Runway. No further word. Eileen also advised that she had forgotten her phone yesterday, but reported having seen Kekoa (RK72) & little sister U’ilani (RN36) together at the birth beach, Reef Runway.

Diane Gabriel checked in at 1127 with the report of Meli (F20) at the Elbow, and later at 1004, Kaikaina (RL54) at the same location, Kaihalulu Beach, Turtle Bay.

At 1226 Team Billand found Nihoa (R912) at Guard Rails Beach, Maili. She had last been reported at KP on 5-14-14.

The Billands got a call from Security about an animal at Lagoon#3, however there was nobody there when they arrived.

Kimo Smith checked in from the end of the world at 1413, with the report of Ka’ena (RO40), RL42, and her little sister Luana (RN58), all together at the Main Pool, Ka’ena Point.

Pua - I think the shear waters are trying to spell out a message...

5-1-2014 DB's Dailies: Sadie&Pup, Kainoa&U/F@RI, Aukai@LL, R018,RIP,M&M@WP, Pohaku,Kolohe&Haupu@PC,Buster@GR, La'akea&Meli@TB

The Jurassic Park troops owned Makai Pier for about half the day. It was an extras cast of 300, along with 100 or so crew and tons of trucks and equipment. I guess Rabbit Island is home to seals and Dinosaurs ! We shall see. My morning observations were from the bleachers at Kaupo Beach Park, but I moved back to my plush sky box once the zoo left.

The Rabbit Island cast was Sadie & Pup (RB12)(D#28) starting at 2BS, but hauling out after a long swim session to a spot 80 ft right of 3BS at 1231 for a feed and a snooze. She is definitely showing the kid the territory.

On a pan at 0804 I found Kainoa (RN04) up in the Morning Glory, 70 ft right of 3BS. He would later move down to cool off. He appears to have full use of his LFF, and his CC wound has the look of the usual healed CC scar.

At 0930 what continues to be an U/F hauled out to the far left end of the beach. No tags, and no visible markers.

At 1307 Melanie called with the report of Aukai (RL12) at the Lanai Lookout Cove. Thanks Melanie.... Ya’ Done Good !!

At 0646 Team Billand reported R018 fronting #1706, and RIP (RR70) fronting Tower#2 at White Plains.

M&M (R020) would arrive at 0738 . She hauled out to RIP, and both would enter the water for a near shore frolic. At 0859 they would both haul out to join R018.

At 1134 the Billands received word of 3 animals at Paradise Cove. They would prove to be Pohaku (RO28) on the reef, and Kolohe (RW22)&Haupu (RB24) together on the beach. Kolohe & Haupu would relocate to Lani’s

At 1134 the Billands recieved word of an animal in a canal in Waianae, reported by the HFD. Debbie responded but found nobody.

At 1410 Team Billand found Buster (RV08) at Guard Rails, Maili.

Afternoon email from Vera Cober brought shots of La’akea (RK82)at Right Spot’s Spot and Meli (RF20)at the Elbow, from her Turtle Bay trek today.

4-24-2014 DB's Dailies: Sadie&Pup,Kainoa,Duke&U/F@RI, Kaiwi@CW, Buster,R018,M&M, RIP@WP, Pohaku@Nanakuli,Kolohe@Maili Pt, Nihoa@GR, Kekoa&T21M@RR, Rocky@MI, Meli,Kaikaina&La'akea@TB, Mojo@Molokai

At 0650 the Rabbit Island cast consisted of Sadie & Pup (RB12) doing a morning water session at the left end, and Duke (RA12) with the U/F at the right end of the beach. Kainoa would haul out to Right Middle Cliff at 0707. Today was the first time I saw him actually lying on his wound side. I think of that as a good sign.

Gayle called at 1050 with the report of Kaiwi (RK96) at her usual China Walls hangout. Unfortunately, when I got there at 1228 she was no longer there.

Team Billand had a busy day as usual. At 0643 they reported Buster (RV08) and R018 together fronting #1708, White Plains.

At 0705 M&M hauled out to join the boys but all would wind up battling in the water. Duke would haul out to #1707 by himself at 0750, while R018 & M&M played with the buoy until hauling out together fronting the Snack Shack at 0816.

RIP (RR70) would haul out to join them at 0848. There was naturally some battling involved. R018 was gone at 1456, and RIP departed at 1658.

At 1018 Team Billand found Pohaku (RO28) at Puka Pants Beach, Nanakuli.

At 1045 they reported Kekoa (RK72) in the company of T21M at the Reef Runway.

At 1228 Ocean Safety called with a report of an animal at Magic Island. At 1615 Dana advised that it was Rocky (RH58). Awaiting photo confirmation.

At 1247 the Billands reported Kolohe (RW22) at Maili Pt.

At 1302 they found Nihoa (R912) at Guard Rails Beach, Maili.

My favority Molokaian, Diane Pike checked in at 1656 with the report of Mojo (RI17) over there. My 2nd born spends more time there than he does at his Rabbit Island home. Her ID of Mojo was by his little known N22 bleach, which is very difficult to see on his left side.

Diane Gabriel sent shots from her day at Turtle Bay. She found La’akea (RK82) at Right Spot’s Spot, and Kaikaina (RL54) & Meli (RF20) together at Elbow Beach, TB.
