5-31-2013 DB's Dailies: Kainoa&Kolohe@RI, Irma@KBP, Buster,M&M@KCG, 2AW@Makaha, Rocky@EB

It would be 1030 before a critter would enter my life. Kainoa (RN04) hauled out to the Waimanalo end of the beach on Rabbit Island, and would remain the rest of the day.

At 1045 a critter hauled out to Seal Rock Inlet. It would take a couple of hours but finally, Kolohe (RW22) showed me his right side natural bleach.

At 1253 Dera called with the report of an animal "across from Seal Life Park". At 1308 I found Irma (R010) on the rocks at Kaupo Beach Park. I'd last seen her at Hanauma Bay on the 28th, so I began to think maybe she headed back west. Wrong............ again ! She departed at 1803. Are we on Irma pup watch? Any time estimates?

Team Billand reported Buster (RV08) and M&M (R020) together at "Al's Bench", Kalaeloa Campgrounds.

At 1722 they reported 2AW in Makaha.

At 1753 posse member Toni called to advise that she had Rocky (RH58) behind her house in Ewa Beach. She was moving down while we talked.

5-30-2013 DB's Dailies:Kainoa,Kaiwi&M38@RI, Kolohe@LL, Kermit@WSK, Ewa Girl&Pup@RR, Buster,M&M@KCG

On my 2nd look at Rabbit Island at 0859 I found RM38 at Seal Rock Inlet. He would remain all day.

At 0938 I found Kainoa (RN04) hauling out the the far left end of RI. He would be gone when I got back to the pier at 1349 after my mid day recheck of the SE quadrant.

At 1056 I found what would prove to be Kaiwi (RK96) at Seal Rock Inlet. I thought I saw her RK96 bleach, but the ID was confirmed when I got back to MP, when she showed me her forehead natural bleach, multiple times.

At 1151 posse member, Teri called with the report of a come...look...leave, brief encounter with an animal at Lanai Lookout. Due to what I hope is just a case of temporary insanity, she didn't have binos or a camera with her, but her description of an unreadable bleach number on the back, and a tennis ball sized natural bleach at the right fore flipper, makes the Kolohe (RW22) ID, a no brainer.

At 0653 Team Billand reported an overnighted Kermit (R012) at Wind Sock. He would be gone on the Billands 1830 check.

At 0836 they reported M&M (R020) at Kalaeloa Campgrounds. She has something, on her chest. It may be tissue, but more looks will tell the tale.

The Billands checked in again after there quality time experience with Ewa Girl & Pup at the Reef Runway. Mom & Pup are said to be happy and well.

At 1349 the Billands reported that Buster (RV08) was now with M&M at KCG. I guess his east side Irma Quest has ended. The Billands reported that M&M and Buster departed at 1815, with M&M giving he boy he slip. They would see him briefly at WSK, but after a quick look he continued on.

5-29-2013 DB's Dailies:Kainoa & U/U @ RI, Buster @ KK

At 0920 I became aware that one of the rocks to the right of 1BS on Rabbit Island was , in fact, Kainoa (RN04). He had no doubt been there since my arrival for R#2 at 0818, and I just failed to see him. He would enter the water at 1249, and I did not see him again.

On a pan at 1022 I got just a glimpse of the sliver of an animal in Seal Rock Inlets. Two trips to the Makapuu Overview showed that the animal could only be seen from MO. It was completely invisible of the pier. Size and color suggested a sub-adult animal, but that is as close as I can come.
At 1138 Gayle called with the report of Buster (RV08) wishin' & hopin' for Irma at Irma's Grotto, but once again both he and I were skunked on the Irma Quest. Posse member Christian called at 1353 to advise that Buster was still there.

The Billands called at 0818 to advise that one of their posse had reported an animal at White Plains , between Tower #2 and #1708. Laurie would respond. She advised that the animal departed at 1249. When Laurie looked at her photos she advised the Billands that it was RIP (RR70). Awaiting photos.

At 1317 Team Billand found Kermit (R012) at Kermit's Reef.

The Billands are attending the Pier #38 meeting tonight, so check the blog in the morning for their shots. Sorry folks... will have to wait until tomorrow.... this blog lady been working all day... and still without internet at the house.... time for me to lock the doors at the Lanikai General Store and head home.  OOPS I lied!

5-28-2012 Ewa Girl and P

Aloha Good People!

Well needless to say I was thrilled to be out on the beach and to watch Ewa Girl and her pup!  She's an amazing female.... and deserves all our respect for turning out so many healthy pups for so many years.

The trip to the airport left a lot to be desired with torrential down pour on the H3... It was literally like driving through a storm cloud.. zero visibility. But in the end all worth it.

The pictures aren't that great.... I had to keep a distance as there aren't any more shrubs to hide behind....

When I arrived I am guessing a feeding session was just ending ... Ewa girl was on her side and the pup was hidden from view... as soon as mom rolled onto her belly the kid made its way around and they went into snooze mode. OF COURSE 5 minutes before it was time to depart.... they went in for a swim... probably about 20-30 feet from the shore... water was like glass. ( BIG difference from what Irma puts her kids through )...   Well enjoy and I look forward to watching this little munchkin grow....

thanks for lunch mom
