They were treated to an awesome find of four monks seals on the beach.  They were all high up, sleeping and doing just fine.  To the right was the lovely and very big R604.  This is a little surprising  she was hanging out with all the boys. There was R3CX Nalu, big boy RH32 Kaale and RL20 Kalua. RL20 has begun his molt, around his neck area.

They called and reported their findings to the hotline.

After spending time with the four seals they headed over to check the outfall.  There they were thrilled to find Opihi RQ42. He was sound asleep hidden in the rocks. They only found him because they heard his little sneeze.  Cute bugga with a little sneeze!

November 16, 2023 Thursday's Dailies

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:40 to 1:55 and there were four seals seen during that time. 

Down from 1BS were two seals:

Adult Male: adult size, newer coat, medium to light gray male belly, not sure about tags.

Unknown Adult: adult size, newer coat, unsure about sex or tags.

Between 3BS and SRI was RG32: adult size, old dark coat with lots of green, and scar above right eye. Marilyn never saw his ventral side and no tags.

About 50 feet closer to SRI was a Subadult Male: subadult size, newer coat, light gray male belly and two red tags.

Team R&B got a text from a fisher friend letting them know there were six seals in the outfall. They headed over but by the time they got there there, all the seals had left, except for one. The seal was too far out and they couldn't make an ID.  They did note the seal had a clean coat and lots of scratches on its back.

Their friend told them a baby seal hauled out and pointed to the rocks. Team R&B kept looking but didn't see anything. Their friend was so patient and kept telling them which rocks, so they walked out and there was the adorable RQ42 Opihi. They couldn't stay due to some appointments. 

But before they left they saw another seal from afar hauling on shore. They went to see who it was and spotted two more seals in the greenery.

Upon arrival at tracks the seal they saw from afar was Nalu R3CX. He had just hauled out and moved to the right. In the greenery were the two infamous fish thieves RH32 Kaale and RL20 Kalua.

After their appointment they went back to the bay and there on the rocks was a lovely fat seal. It was Lei Ola RH48 alone and testing. She is getting green again.

And of course the dolphins were at play.

November 11, 2023 Saturday's Dailies

Before heading to the pier Marilyn checked out the southeast hot spots.  After checking a few areas she stopped at the blowhole. Just about 9:10 she noticed a seal hauling out on the rocks in the cove on the sandy beach side of the parking lot.  The seal was an Adult Male: adult size, old coat with lots of green and no visible tags. There were some scars on the right rear side, tow parallel line scars and some in the front of the rear flippers. After looking at all the photos Marilyn thinks this could be RG32.

Marilyn did view Rabbit Island from 12:20 to 2:15 and there were two seals during that time.

About 50 feet Makapuu of 3BS were two seals:

Adult Female: smaller adult size, new coat, light to medium gray female belly and unsure about tags.

A short distance from the AF towards SRI was a Sub-adult Female: subadult size, newer coat, light tan female belly and two red tags.

Team R&B had a frustrating morning in that they saw an Unknown Adult in the bay, large and clean coat. Taking photos from afar didn't help with an ID and the seal didn't land.  

After the xmas parade they went back and still no seals. But this time the boys who jump into the waters told them a seal just left and they missed them.  

Next stop they found RH32 Kaale. He was in the same spot he's been all week molting. His molt is about 90% complete.  To his left was Nalu R3CX who already has a nice new clean coat.

An added bonus was the dolphins were back in force. A huge pod of dolphins!

At Kahe they were happy to find Opihi RQ42 in the same spot as yesterday. He was alone just resting

and looking ever so sweet.  There were no hooks or lines and they couldn't tell if there was a scar. 

Then people arrived and were just walking right by him, he was well aware of them. One woman realized the seal was there and began screaming. Then they all gathered to get all their photos.

Once Team R&B saw them getting down on their knees to get closer, they called out to them to move back and give the seal space.  One guy gestured to them either motioning he couldn't hear or that they were crazy. Once again Team R&B called out telling them to give the seal space, thankfully they left.

Lastly they found the handsome four year old RL08 enjoying a siesta on the rocks. Its been a while since he's been on the west side.
