Today's dailies are brought to you by Team T&D and Team R&B💕.  In other news, some very sad news it was reported one of our 2020 seals RM90 was found dead on the windward side. AND ON A HAPPY NOTE:  Today is Kaale's 5th Birthday. Happy Birthday butthead!

Team R&B found RN44 sleeping on the rocks at pokai bay. He was alone and resting peacefully. There was a small group of folks there observing him  Turned out there was a fight between some homeless folks, Team R&B warned the group to be careful.

They also spotted a U/U foraging at the jetty in the bay. The seal had a lot of green and they could not get an ID so it was reported as an unknown. Team R&B left the area since the fight was continuing to escalate.

Team R&B did the Ka'ena West walk and came up empty again. (that's because they all on the other side).  On their walk they did spot a seal at Yoks so on their way back they stopped to check. It was RG28 Leflty sleeping peacefully on shore and alone.  They probably wouldn't have spotted him if they hadn't stopped to throw away their trash.  They saw some eagle rays cruising close to shore.

Team T&D hiked Ka'ean Point today, their first fins was a real surprise! They found Kauai Kolohe RK36 who hasn't been seen in quite sometime.  Their next find was Luana RN58, she is looking nice and healthy but neither of them think she's pregnant. They found RL74 who still had a hook, line trailing, leader with a pigtail. All the appropriate calls were made with photos. 

From there they made it out to the point and found a seal doing the hippo float in one of the pools, it

was Ka'ena RO40. Luckily hust as they got to the point a seal was leaving with an applied bleach.  Team T&D reached out to Team R&B and with their help they figured out it was the birthday boy Kaale RH32. While out at the point they received a text that a NOAA team were coming out to try and cut RL74's line. So Team T&D hightailed it back and patiently waited. NOAA Team arrived and it was over before anyone knew what was happening. Even RL74 popped her head up once the line was cut and then put her head back down and went back to resting like nothing happened.

While Tammy waited with RL74, Dave walked back to their truck. He mentioned on his walk back he saw two seal where there was previously one. Lesley went down and ID'd  Holokai RG40 had joined RK36 Kauai Kolohe.

Team T&D's last stop was to see RL42 Leia and Puka P03. Tammy last laid eyes on the pup four days ago and was amazed how much he has grown in that short time. While hanging out, Lesley had gone to check down the beach and found RL98 Lina.  Seems they had a very good seal day at the point today.

06/05/2021 Saturday Monk Seal Dailies

Marilyn observed Rabbit Island from about 2:55 to 4:15 this afternoon. There were five seals on island today. About 20 feet Lanikai side of the 3BS was Aukai RL12 and P04 (roto tag 215). Mom did not change position much and the pup moved around for a bit and did at least one feed.

About 30 feet on the Makapuu side of the 3BS were two seals.   (UM) unknown, subadult to adult size, older coat, dark male belly with two tags. (UF ) subadult to adult size, older coat, yellow-brown female belly with a fair about of green and two tags.  The U/M did not move much but the female relocated several times.

Way on RRB was RP24 (P01) Mohala. She was ID'd by the nb on the LFF and her two new tags. Marilyn as well as the rest of us are relieved she was on island today, because the little buggah  was MIA since last Saturday.  When she was last seen she looked to have something around her neck and based on today's sighting Marilyn did  not see anything on her neck (whew).

Team R&B arrived at a west side beach early morning and found RN44 on lower rocks. He has a nice clean coat and his tags were showing. They could also see the scar on the right side of head by his eye.

Along with RN44 RL70 was there. She appears to have spent the night, she was completely dry and very green.  Team R&B did another check later in the day and the two seals were still in the same spots.

Team R&B went out to Lani's and there were lots of folks on the beach. There was a seal on the beach that turned out to be the beloved 2008 seal RW22 Kolohe. His snout wounds are looking better and healing, not as lumpy and closing up nicely. His tag reads W and a partial 2.  Team R&B spent their time advising the visitors to go around the seal and not to bother him. They had two signs placed it to the right of the seal.  They stayed with Kolohe who rested peacefully while they were there. 

Team R&B also did Ka'ena West and was skunked. Too bad after making that trek to come up empty.

05/07/2021 Friday Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Melody and Team R&B💕.  

They arrived at their first stop the tide was low and there now seals spotted.  Then they heard a dog barking and when they checked it out there was RL20 Kalua heading to his spot on the rocks. He took his sweet time getting up and when he finally landed it was a good spot to get some rest.

On their next check he was gone and the tide was up. But on their

final check they found him again all the at the end of the camp. They tried to get closer but the dogs in the area were barking so they left the area.  As a side note the little green machine will be 2 Years Old on Saturday May 7th.  Happy Birth Kalua!

Next stop at another westside location they found Miss Kala RH76 snoozing alone on seal inlet once again. This makes day five she has been at this location. She looks good, no injuries or markers.  At about 7:45 Team R&B noticed fishing boat arriving. There was a seal out there and they were able to ID RN14 Kalani. He was helping himself to some fish.  Team R&B called the hotline and texted a couple of contacts. They had to leave for a bit and when they returned Kalani was still foraging and  stealing what he could. By 11:20 the boat was gone and they no longer saw RN14 Kalani.

Team R&B ended their day with a very pleasant note. They headed over to the bay and found two seals in different locations. The first seal took them some time to recognize but they finally saw his tags and it was RN44 male from Kauai born in 2013. He hadn't been seen here on Oahu for a bit.  The other surprise was finding little RM32 Kai on the rocks. Looked like he had just arrived or moved up because of the rising tide. He is looking green and adorable.  There was a group of people coming so they left the site to not disclose their location.

Melody went to visit Mom Kaiwi and P02 mid morning today. She was told they had spent the night by

the Natatorium wall and hauled back out on their side of the beach when they finished their early morning swim.  They spent time snoozing and nursing for the next three hours. Mom and pup went out for a few more swims and then did a little more snoozing and snacking.  The beach was busy with people and unleashed dogs.  Someone had mentioned earlier two off leash fogs went up to Mom and pup. There might be video on social media.
