02/02/21 Tuesday Monk Seal Dailies

 

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand.

Team Billand found RH76 Kala and RJ72 Kekoa together at a west side location. There were in full snooze mode at the right of water front rocks. 

At the bay they found R3CX Nalu snoozing on the rocks alone. He has gained weight looking much bigger.

At another west side beach they found little N4 Kai snoozing alone on

the sand. He is looking pretty green these days. Team Billand noticed a 50 cent size wound on the right side of his face. He is petty cute little fella.

From afar they spotted a small little seal, they were having a hard time figuring out who this could be. They saw the small neck scar and they realized it was Kalua RL20.  Then there was another seal adult size when she showed the cookie scar on right side, they knew it was RL42 Leia.  There were people arriving on the beach seeing the seals and heading over to them.  One guy ventured down a bit, looks like the group were tourist and he was showing them the area.

Once again Team Billand hit the jackpot spotting a pod of whales. There was spouting and logging exposing their pecs and a Mom & calf.   If that wasn't enough they also experienced a gorgeous rainbow.

01/27/2021 Wednesday Monk Seal Dailies

 

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand and Team T&D.  Team Billand is still having technical issues, but we figured out a fix for now.  

Team T&D went out to Kahuku today and enjoyed the scenery. They came across two little youngens today. There was RK80 Katy and RJ58 Kaimana. They slept the entire time Team T&D was there. It was a perfectly beautiful day, these two seals and absolutely no humans.

Team Billands first find this morning was RL20 Kalua. He is looking a little thinner than the last time

they saw him. Then they notices a seal hauling up and it was RH76 Kala. She was very curious about little RL20.

From there they went and found a U/U foraging and doing 5 minute dives. The UU had a green snout, ding on its left shoulder and a natural bleach on its side.  Off the point there were multiple seals fighting. They were able to ID bosom buddies Kaale RH32 and Kalani RN14. Little N4 Kai was there holding his own. Lefty RG28 was seen in the water, looks like its a boyz party. Even RW22 Kolohe was there. Team Billand got a picture of the wound on his snout.

Team Billand stopped off at tracks and found the beautiful Miss Aukai RL12.

After leaving Aukai Team Billand went back to check on RL20.  Now RL70 Leina was with the little guy staying close by. Kekoa Alii RK72 was also at the site but away from RL20 and RL70.  

Last but not least the best part of the day was finding Benny RE74. They spotted a seal from afar and went to check it out. They were thrilled to see their boy Benny snoozing. They've had him on their radar and was so happy to finally find. him.

01/23/2021 Saturday Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand and Lesley.  Lesley's Friday and Saturday reports are posted separately, so make sure you check both.

Team Billand got a call from a friend that there was a seal on shore at plains. They headed over and found Kawika R407, snoozing in a zone that the life guards had set up.  We love the life guards! Team Billand called the hotline since there were a ton of people on the beach along with "access surf" group.

They headed out and stopped at tracks, when they arrived they saw two seals from a distance. There

were lots of people, dogs and tents. In addition there was a drone that flew above them maybe 15 to 20 feet, the seals seemed agitated. Team Billand ID'd RH32 Kaale and RG28 Lefty and called the hotline, but in the end no one came out. The seals entered the water, spent some time fighting in the shoreline and then landed once more. They had attempted a couple of landings but the people rushing up to them made them turn around and try again. The last time the landed and seemed like they were going to stay, Team Billand left. Hopefully a volunteer made it out there.

From tracks they headed over to the bay. They found RN44 on the rocks. He was snoozing and looking very green. Its a mystery when he lasted molted. Then there was little RL20 Kalua to the right in front of the homeless camp. They waited for an hour for him to turn over for a tag shot. He never showed his face, he was well hidden. Team Billand didn't go too close as they didn't want to alert anyone he was there. Meanwhile the dolphins were going nuts off shore.

They stopped at another west side location and spotted a seal resting comfortably. It was R3CX Nalu resting among the crowds of people, some with boogie boards. Then again the waves were cranking. 

They looked around and then spotted three seals snuggled in the rocks close together. There was N4 snuggled close to Kawena and then RL70 Kalua.  Pretty darn cute.
