05/23/2021 Sunday Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:50 to 2:20. There were only three critters during her observation.
At LPB way back by the cliff was a lone seal that she thinks was P01. Weaner coloration, light belly, and unsure of sex.
Aukai RL12 and P04 were initially behind the waterfront rocks at RRB. It almost was a repeat of yesterday, but they finally came into view. RL12 was ID'd by her large size, applied N13 bleach.
P04 was having a hard time getting mom to roll over for a feed. During Marilyn's observation she did not see a feeding but they did settle down for a snooze.

Team R&B were watching the dolphins at Pokai Bay. There was a kayak passing and a seal swimming behind it. As the seal got closer to the rocks they realized it was Benny. He hauled in landing on the reef rocks briefly. He looked around rested for a bit and then left. He headed to the jetty and then disappeared.

They decided to head out to Ka'ena West again. As they walked along the coast they spotted people running down the cliff, and then there were two seals that appeared in front of them. It was the couple of 2021 Kekoa Alii RK72 and Lei Ola RH48.  Lei Ola hauled out first over the rocks and Kekoa followed.
Their next find was a seal sleeping and they had a hard time making the ID. Finally the seal moved and they were able to ID R407 Kawika.

After Team R&B finished their trek to Ka'ena West they were driving along and spotted another seal. They pulled over to check it out. There was Kalani RN14 snoozing on the rocks. He was alone and resting peacefully.

For most of us, we would call it day, BUT not Team R&B, they made the long drive to see RL42 Leia and P03 Puka. When they arrived the little Puka was snoozing with Mom. Then he moved to the other side of mom for a snack and then back to sleep.

Team R&B walked the area, and spotted two seals together by the rocky side of BB. There was RN58 Luana and a male. Team R&B aren't sure but their best guess the male was Holokai RG40. Based on his size, body condition and natural bleach on his hind flipper.
After leaving Luana they found another male resting on the sand to the right. They ID'd RW02 PvKauai.
