3/31/2016 DB's Dailies: Nani,Kainoa,RG32&U/M@Rabbit Island, Kaiwi@Kokee Flats, Kekoa@Reef Runway, RIP,Ka'ena&Luana@Ka'ena Pt, Right Spot@Sunset Bch, BG@Turtle Bay, RK36@Maili Pt, R5AY@Uleawa Bch Park

At 0700 I found what would prove to be Nani (RK60), 80 ft right of 3BS on Rabbit Island. Her left side N50 bleach made it a no brainer. She would move down mid morning and remain all day.

Also at 0700 I found what turned out to be Kainoa (RN04) on the rocks at Seal Rock Inlet. He too would remain all day.

At 0920 RG32 came galumphing out of the vegetation behind Seal Rock Inlet. He would down and behind the rocks and was not visible for the remainder of the day.

At 1036 Gayle called to advise that she was with Kaiwi (RK96) at the Kokee Flats, Portlock.

At 1146 what remained an juvenile, U/M, hauled out to join Nani, right of 3BS. I got lots of good looks at all aspects of this animal, but there was simply nothing to give me any clues, except 2 red tags.

At 0943 Team Billand found Kekoa (RK72) at the Reef Runway. It was an especially great find since he had not been seen since the day before the Kimo Kai incident.

At 0946 Tammy & Dave checked in from the End of the World. They reported RIP (RR70) on the Back Beach, & Ka’ena (RO40) & Luana (RN58) at the Main Beach. Luana was super high up, beyond the big rock.

At 1004 Tour Driver posse member Raul called with the report of an animal at Sunset Beach. I contacted Dana, and Jeanie Martinson responded , confirming the Right Spot (R016) ID, but right side NB.

Also during that Dana text she advised that BG (R303) was at Turtle Bay.

At 1211 the Billands found an U/U forager off shore of CIP. There was no ID.

At 1231 Aliza called the Billands with the report of an animal near the Whale carcass, Nanakuli. The animal was gone when they arrived.

At 1344 the Billand found RK36 at Maili Point.

A call from Team Billand at 1755 would have knocked my socks off, if I owned socks. They reported Honey Girl, R5AY, at Uleawa Beach Park on the west side, for the first time EVER !!!!! Amazing !!!!! ID was by the 5AZ tag. Dana had called them after receiving a call about harassment of an animal. HPD was on the scene when the Billands arrived.

An 1833 text from Dana advised of a haul out of an Unknown animal at Haleiwa. It was to dark for an ID.

3/30/2016 DB's Dailies: Buster @ Hanauma Bay, Kainoa&RG32@Rabbit Island, Kaiwi&Cass@China Walls, Pohaku@Uleawa Beach Park, RI37@Kuilima Cove, Holokai@the Elbow, TB, U/U@Haleiwa

At 0634 I did my usual Hanauma Bay check from the overview. Lo & Behold there was a seal swimming amongst the coral heads, inside the reef, toward the “cable channel” (right end) of the bay. I remained there until 0700 watching as what I was sure was Buster (RV08) swam inside and then back outside the reef, moving toward the left side of the bay, and headed generally outward. Since he had been at Toilet Bowl yesterday I figured that was probably where he would ultimately go. I decided to continue on my route, and came back to check Toilet Bowl at 1313. Alas he was not there. I headed back up, and just as I got back to the parking lot I got a call from the HB lifeguards advising that there was an animal on the left side ledge. Naturally, when I got down there it was Buster !!

The Rabbit Island cast would prove to be Kainoa (RN04) at Seal Rock Inlet at 0849, and at 0945 little RG32 came out of the high grass and moved down to join Kainoa. They would remain all day.

At 1100 Gayle Matsuda called with the report of Kaiwi (RK96) & Cass (RG06) together at China Walls.

At 0622 Team Billand reported Pohaku (RO28) once again at Uleawa Beach Park. Per Melina Pohaku departed 1825.

Just down the way the Billands found and reported a very decomposed Whale carcass near Nanakuli.

A Dana text at 1851 advised of the report of an animal in Haleiwa. Photos by Chrissy VanMeter were inconclusive due to darkness.

A 1921 Dana text advised that RI37 had departed Kuilima Cove, Turtle Bay around 1900. She had been there since 0750 this morning. Carola was taking down the equipment. Mahalos to Diane Gabriel for the shots, and the response along with Don Porter & Carola Johnston.
