August 31, 2023 Thursday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn, Tammy and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 1:00 to 2:45 and there a total of four seals on island.
On Lanikai side of LPB was Adult Female 1: adult size, newer coat, light gray female belly and two red tags.
Between 3BS and SRI were two seals:
Adult Female 2: adult size, new coat, yellowish female belly and two red tags.
Subadult Female: subadult size, new coat, light gray female belly and two red tags. She may have a line scar on her mid right chest.
At 2:17 pm, Marilyn noticed AF1 looking up at something, there was a seal in a depression in the middle of LPB. The seal never fully emerged from the depression, seal reported as Unknown Adult: adult size, unknown gender, older coat and a light yellow belly, unknown tags.

In seal news today nicknames were announced for the 2023 pups.
RS34 (PO3) - Moana
RS12 (PO4) - Hoku (in 2008 there was a male named Hoku who died during his first year)
RS08 (PO6) - Lahina also referred to as Kiele
RS20 (PO7) - Maluhia also referred to as Maylea

Tammy and Lesley headed out to the point and then hiked Keawa'ula side. Their first find was RP40 Ka'ena on the runway. Then they had a swimmer that never hauled out but luckily he showed them enough to make an ID. It was RG28 Lefty.
They checked back beach and they were happy to see TA68, which was Tammy's first introduction to the male from Laysan. On the other side they found Squinty R330.

A last minute decision they decided to hike Keawal'ula. They first saw RW02 PvKauai. When they turned the corner they spotted a very green seal and they were both delighted to ID RP30. If that wasn't enough they next saw RS20 and thankfully she flashed her tags. Lastly they found RL74 Kami and she's look pretty big.

Team R&B started at the bay and once again Miss Kala RH76 was alone in her pond.  There were two gentlemen that told them of a seal to the right so off they went to check it out. Just as they got there the seal began to head for the water. They got a tag shot and ID'd Nalu R3CX before he took off.

At another west side location they spotted a seal on the rocks. It was an adult male who they ID''d as RG32.  Next a seal who was way up inland who was ID'd as R416.

Lastly at Kahe they found RL20 on the rocks again. He was alone and looking very green, thankfully his tags were visible.

August 30, 2023 Wednesday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Team R&B💕

They started their day at the bay and today there were three seals.  One seal was newly molted and was taking off, so they quickly took some photos to make the ID. It was RL70 Leina, and she left the site.

Next was RM31 ai who was sound asleep and really looking like he's getting ready to molt. He was high up and didn't move.

Then there was the newly molted RH76 Kala hanging out in her pond.

At another west side location there was an adult seal in the water hole.  So many seals fight over this spot but today it was RG32 who had it to himself. RG32's signature head scar was clearly visible and he has no tags.

Finally they made it out to Kahe and there on the rocks was a seal. There was a very green RL20 Kalua and his tag was visible.

August 29.2023 Tuesday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 1:15 to 2:50 and there were four seals on island.
Between 3BS and SRI was the Subadult Female: subadult size, new coat, light to medium gray female belly and two tags.
Initially near SRI were three seals:
Adult Female 1: adult size, older coat, yellowish tan female belly.
Marilyn noted she still has not seen tags on her.
Adult Male: adult size, older coat, medium brown male belly and at least one red tag.
Adult Female 2: large adult size, old coat, mottled tan female belly and tags not visible.

The AF1 galumphed over to and beyond the SF. The AF1 was playing with a morning glory vine and ultimately it was wrapped around her chest. Then the AM galumphed over and passed the SF so it nuzzle
and bother the AF1. The SF then moved a short distance away.

On Team R&B's first visit to the bay they found two seals. Kai RM31 and Kala RH76 were side by side on the rocks resting.
Later on they made a second visit and both seal were getting ready to leave the area. This time Kai jumped in the water first and Kala followed behind.

Next stop they spotted a seal on shore from afar.  There were two folks near the seal taking photos of a topless woman.  They were upset but they couldn't get down to the area.  The seal was an adult male with red tags and was green and grubby.

Sadly at Makaha Beach they spotted a large honu with a huge pink tumor on its left eye, and other
tumors on other areas.  They called the hotline immediately in that it looked to be in bad shape.

Lastly at another west side location they found R416.  He was alone on the rocks basking in the hot sun. Then he got hit by a big wave, which caused him to move into the water behind the rocks.
