June 3, 2024 Monday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 11:55 to 1:35 pm and there were four seals seen during that time. (Mom and pups)
About 80 feet apart between 1BS and 2BS were the following:
RL12 Aukai and her adopted pup PO3. They seem to be sticking close together and so far Marilyn has not seen PO3 try to go for a solo swim. Marilyn did observe one nursing session.
Closer to 2BS was RH76 Kala and her pup PO8. They seem to be doing fine. The pup crawled around behind mom soon after Marilyn started viewing and she did not see PO8 again until Kala started moving up the beach.
Both Masked Booby parents were with their chick during part of her viewing session.

Team R&B started their day viewing dolphins having a great time in the waves. They were super active today. While watching the dolphins they noticed there were two seals on shore at electric beach.  So they left to check it out.

When they arrived it took them a bit to make an ID. Both seals were sandy, they female was ID'd as the lovely little R406. R604 The male who is huge was RN04 Kainoa.

They headed over to Nimitz and did the walk out once again. There they found R407 Kawika resting alone. The surf was rough and getting higher.

Last stop at another west side location left them frustrated. They saw a seal foraging off the rocks in the wild surf. They were frustrated because the glare was so bad they couldn't make a positive ID and had to report the seal as an Unknown Adult.

May 25, 2024 Saturday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 2:10 to 3:08 pm and there were four seals seen during that time.
On LPB there were initially two seals:
Adult Male: adult size, dark male belly and two red tags. HE was accompanying an Adult Female: adult size, cream colored female belly and two red tags.
At 2:27 pm, PO3 hauled out to the Makapuu side of the AM and AF who were aware of him, but there were no interactions. PO3 identified by his weaner size and shape and no tags.
Almost directly down from the 3BS was a Sub-adult Male: sub-adult size, light tannish-yellow belly and unsure about tags. He barely changed positions so there wasn't much to go on.

When Team R&B arrived at their first stop they spotted the dolphins right away. Shortly after they noticed a seal on waterfront rocks, who they ID'd as R416 Makalii.
Then they noticed a very handsome head bobbing up from the rocks. The seal hauled on on seal inlet and they were able to ID RM31 Kai.

Their next stop was at Kahe. There they found RG28 Lefty alone and resting. They did go back later in the day to check on him and he was still there. This time he moved down in the pond.

From there they checked the outfall and spotted a seal foraging. They could see the seal had a green snout. Then they spoke to a swimmer who asked who is N7?  That was their aha moment when they realized the green snout was RH32 Kaale.

They spotted two seals hauling in at tracks from afar. They headed over to find RN04 Kainoa bothering the lovely R406.

Checking in at Nimitz they found one seal. On the reef resting alone was R407 Kawika. Thankfully
nobody was bothering him.

Last stop was at plains where they found the very large RL12 Aukai. There was a zone set up around her. There were lots of people out today and will probably be through out the long weekend. We can only hope that she leaves and heads over to Rabbit Island.... like now!

May 21, 2024 Tuesday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:48 to 2:18 and there were six seals seen during that time.  A good old fashion seal party!
Among the waterfront rocks between 1BS and 2Bs was weaner PO3: weaner size and shape light gray male belly and no tags.
At 12:53 pm a Juvenile Male hauled out between PO3 and 2BS. The JM was juvenile size, light gray male belly and two red tags.
Between Middle Cliff and 3BS was a Juvenile Female: juvenile size, older coat with some green, light tannish yellow female belly and two red tags. She took interest when some of the older seals were in the water offshore of her location.
When Marilyn started viewing, tow seals were about 20 fee Makapuu side of the 3BS. They were:
RK37 Huia (Sadie's 2018 Rabbit Island pup) adult size, older coat, dark tan female belly, two red tags and nb on her lower left side. She hasn't been seen for months, so Marilyn was happy to have her show up. Based on when she molted last year, it was predicted she would pup in April this year. It doesn't appear she is pregnant.
Next to RK37 was a Sub-adult Female: sub-adult size, tan female belly and two red tags.
At 1:18 pm and Adult Male hauled out to the two females and made quite a stir. After checking out the SF, he moved over to RK37 and she was not happy. The AM was adult size, dark gray male belly and two red tags. The AM continued to have spats with RK37 as they moved in the Makapuu direction and then RK37 and the AM went into the water at 1:45 pm, the SF followed them into the water a short time later. At 1:53 pm TK37 and the AM hauled out to LPB where they moved up the shore and went into snooze mode.

Team R&B first find was when they arrived at Pokai Bay, There was
RM31 Kai alone on the rocks. The boy is looking a little grubby these days.

At another west side location they found tow seals. One of the handsome males was on lower rocks snoozing. They ID'd RL20 Kalua.
The other seal was the little male R416. He was at waterfront rocks sleeping.

A stop at guard rails is where they found two seals side by side. RN04 Kainoa the big male was with female R406.

Lastly they stopped at Nimitz where they saw a seal swimming out of the cove along the jetty. Looked like the seal had some sardines for a snack and finally landed on shore. This seal word them out and they finally were able to ID RN14 Kalani.
Its a shame the seals come to this spot for rest but so many people come with their dogs and make it difficult for the seals. The second seal Team R&B spotted was R407 who swam around for a bit. He finally landed on the sand and was very alert to the people around.
