10/31/2022 Monday's Dailies

 Happy Halloween !!!

Today's dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B
👻

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 11:55 to 1:25 and there were two seals on Island today. They were not far apart about 30-50 feet Lanikai side of the 1BS.
Adult Female A/F: adult to subadult size, tannish gray belly, two red tags. Once again Marilyn believes this to be the same A/F from Saturday and Sunday.
Marilyn believes the other seal is RK24 Wawamalu/Bruno: subadult to adult size (he is 4 1/2 years old) newer coat, light gray male belly, scar on lower lip, two red tags and a scar on his right side about 1/3 forward of rear flippers.

Team R&B first find Kaale RH32 was on the rocks, but Team R&B couldn't get to the area so they took
photos from a far. They went back later to check on him and Kaale was still there in the same spot.
They did see another seal, an adult, but they did not have enough time to get an ID U/U or a decent photo.

Next stop they saw a female and she was cooperative by turning over to show her flipper. There was RL70 Leina!

The dolphins were out again. Team R&B noticed something odd about one particular dolphin. Something was hanging from the side of its body. They could not identify it, initially I thought it was a fish, then thought it looked more like a lure.

They made the Ka'ena West trek and they found RM31 Kai on the rocks. There was another seal wouldn't show them anything to get an ID. The glare from the sun didn't help. The seal had red tags and they reported it as an U/U.

10/30/2022 Sunday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:15 to 1:15 and just like yesterday there was only one seal during her observation.
Marilyn believes it is the same adult female. About 30 feet Lanikai side of the 1BS was the A/F: adult size, light tannish gray female belly and two red tags. She only showed her ventral side today.

Team R&B started searching early and found no seals. The beaches were filled with tourist, locals and snorkelers.  And then the dolphins arrived, They always look like they are having so much fun!

Finally they spotted a seal hauling up on the rocks. It was RL20 Kalua, but to the right were three people. The trio headed over to the small ponds near Kalua.  Hopefully they were respectful once Team R&B left.

Next stop they were surprised to find RG28 Lefty at the same beach for the last four days. He is finally finished with his molt and looking good. They were equally surprised there were signs up today after four days.  I suspect he'll be moving on soon.

Team R&B made the Ka'ena West trek and saw something on the rocks. There basking in the sun, RM31 Kai, and to his right was his brother RP30 Puka.
A fisher walked close by him to get his spot but the seal was okay and did not react. There ended up being five other fishers across the rocks, but all was good with the brothers. They were just being lazy resting in the hot sun.

10/29/2022 Saturday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Team R&B💕 and Marilyn.

They started their morning waiting around looking for seals in the early morning. They did not see any seals but did witness many dolphins at play. The waters were packed with people everywhere taking advantage of the nice weather.  Even a mongoose sat close by watching everything.

Weekends are tough with so many people out and about all day. They finally found one seal at the bay. It was alone hidden in the rocks.
They ID'd RH76 Kala sleeping peacefully. Team R&B got what they needed and left so no one would see her.

Next they found RG28 Lefty in the same place for the last three day. He's almost done with his molt, just a few spots on his neck and butt area that they can see.

They made the Ka'ena West trek and originally thought they would get skunked. But they were thrilled when they came across a chubby RM31 snoozing on the rocks. He was alone other than two guys further away fishing and thankfully not bothering him. Team R&B sat on the rocks for a bit had a snack and noticed some old ammo laying on the ground.

It was time to take junior sealette home as the sun was getting ready to set. They stopped to take a couple of photos of the sky and of course they spotted a seal. (this would not happen to any of us but them). They lightening wasn't the greatest but they were able to ID KG54 Huakai.
They also saw HFD rescue boat looking for two snorkelers, hopefully who ever was missing was found safe.

Marilyn did Ka'ena Point with Lesley this morning. Lesley mentioned that R330 had overnighted on
Lyman Beach.
They had checked all the usual places until they got to the point where Ka'ena RO40 was in the main pool. Close to an hour later they became aware of another seal approaching.  The seal had a cute face, but when she approached the gap to the main pool, Ka'ena became aware and went after her. There were some interactions between them and ultimately she hauled up onto the rocks on the Kauai side of the main pool.
Marilyn had not seen this seal before, but Lesley though it was R604 Kiana that she has seen before back in May.  Marilyn would say she is subadult size, lots of cookie scars, large scar on her forehead, no tags and a fairly light clean female belly.

Marilyn also viewed Rabbit Island when she returned from Ka'ena Point. There was only one seal during the hour observation. Near 1BS was an Adult Female: adult to subadult size, light gray female belly and two red tags.
