05/31/2022 Tuesday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Melody, Team R&B and yours truly💕

I observed Rabbit Island today between noon and 1:45 and there were two seals on island during my observation.
Unknown Subadult to Adult hauled out on the shoreline by the 3rd blue sign. This seal had two tags and did not show my its belly.
Unknown Adult tucked away in the tide pool, Makapuu side of the island. This seal disappeared about an hour into my stay.
About 1:15 a seal hauled out next to the unknown subadult, I assume it was the same critter that had been in the tide pool. I did see tags on the seal at this time, but there was nothing else to give me anymore information.

Team R&B made a stop before their appointment. They saw a dark object in the water, which was a seal foraging off the rocks. They determined it was Lei Ola doing 6 minute dives. She never landed during their observation.

At another west side location they first spotted a seal on the rocks. It was RM31 Kai snoozing. They couldn't wait to see his lip, but he was resting just fine. They think he might have spent the night.
As they were going back they noticed a seal in the rocks. Closer look it was RP84 Pe'ekai, of course they were happy to see him.

Next stop they found the punk all alone on the rocks. RH32 Kaale is one fat bum bucha! He is a crazy seal, always ready to stir things up with the other seals.  He's probably plotting his next move.

Lastly they spotted a seal on shore from afar. They had no clue who it could be so they went to investigate. They were thrilled to find KG54 Huakai, but there were dogs that kept barking. Team R&B left the area to keep the dogs away. Huakai is looking healthy and gained weight since they last saw her.

Melody got a text mid afternoon of two seals on the west side, at her old stomping ground. Since she
hadn't been there in a while she was hoping one of the seals was Rocky. She was able to determine the male was Kalani RN14 by his applied bleach. The other seal was a large female and Melody took her time really checking for markings or the lack there of. She ruled out Aukai since there was no scar on her forehead.  And then she saw Rocky's scar on her right chest about her nipple area. Long time no see Rocky Girl!
Melody stayed until 6 pm and they were still there. Both had moved further up the sand and Rocky was headed for the morning glories.

05/30/2022 Monday's Dailies (Memorial Day)

Todays dailies are brought to you by posse pal Justin T, and Team R&B💕

Posse Pal Justin T. saw three monk seal this morning at the same secluded spot as yesterday. RM26 Nohea, female born to RK96 Kaiwi on 4/6/2020. She was ID'd by her tags M26/M27.
RK24 Wawamalu/Bruno - Nohea's big brother born on 4/24/2018 ID'd by his tags K25/K24.
R7AF a male identified with applied bleach N2 and flipper tags 7AF and 7AG.

Team R&B arrived at a west side location and found two seals on lower rocks snoozing
together peacefully. There was RM31 Kai and RL70 Leina hanging out together.
They were happy to see RM31 again since its been a while. They woke up and spent a little time fighting for the water hole.
Team R&B noted that Kai has a wound on his bottom lip left side. There was no hook or line seen. His behavior was normal in that he bugged Leina.

Their next stop they spotted RL08 on the rocks alone. The beach was packed and the parking lot was overflowing. Of course there were dogs running off leash, but thankfully RL08 was away from all the madness.
They once again were treated to the dolphins putting on show.

Last stop Team R&B had to work hard to get parking. The beach was loaded, kids, dogs, boogie boarders, swimmers and tents galore. Big party after party.
They found poor Lei Ola RH48 trying to hide in the rocks. She is a lovely seal especially with her new coat.

05/29/2022 Sunday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to by posse pal Justin T. and Team R&B💕

Posse Pal Justin T. saw 3 monk seals at a secluded spot today Sunday 5/29/22 at around 4:30pm.
RJ06 Aka a male identified with flipper tag J07 who was born on May 4, 2017 on Rabbit Island to Sadie.
RK24 Wawamalu, a male born to RK96 Kaiwi on April 24, 2018 identitied by his tags K25 & K24.
R7AF a male identified with bleach N2 and flipper tags 7AF & 7AG.
Justin called the hotline and informed them of his sightings.  All seals looked to be in good body condition with no visible injuries or fishing tackle.

Team R&B started their day looking for seals and their first find was a beautiful Safron. They also saw a Iwa Bird flying around looking majestic.  Then lo and behold they spotted a seal RL08 hauling up on the rocks.

While on the road driving past they saw crowds of people and then they saw a seal on shore. There were no signs just people surrounding the poor seal.
They went to check it out and discovered none other than da Benny RE74. Since he is their #1 seal its upsetting to see how no one was looking out for the seal.

Team R&B kept looking and even though skies were gray, surf high the beaches were crowded.
They spotted two seals one was Kaale RH32 after Lei Ola RH48. The waves hit him and she took the opportunity to move inland galumphing away from Kaale.
He turned to bark at something and there was little RP30 Puka. Puka was curious and wanted to hang out with Lei Ola. Of course butthead Kaale being the punk he is, chased after RP30, who moved as fast as he could to the rocks, scrambling to get away from Kaale.
When they did a recheck, Kaale was gone and they found Lei Ola and RP30 snuggled in the rocks, nice and safe.
