1/9/2016 DB's Dailies: RM38, Buster&Kimo Kai@Rabbit Island, Nani@Moku Nui, Pohaku@Secrets, RIP@Maili Pt, Aukai,Ka'ena&RW02@Ka'ena Point

At 0713 I found RM38 at his usual log location, and Buster (RV08) once again hiding from my back behind the Morning Glory left of the 1BS. Buster’s D#5 molt is 30%.

At 0828 Kimo Kai (RT12) hauled out and moved him to hang out with first Buster and then RM38.

Mark Sullivan (NOAA) was on island today , on a bleaching mission. Buster , of course was out to the question, and RM38's coat is still a bit too new for a bleach to take. Kimo Kai however was just right, and now sports a right side , mid body N13 bleach. He rolled on it a bit, but it was still readable. Thank you Mark, for the long hard day.

Additional NOAA personnel checked the other off shore islands down this way, and reported finding Nani (RK60) on Moku Nui. She now has a new N50 bleach. They also reported a J/M & J/F on Moku Manu, which is a real rare piece of info since sightings there are very sparse.

There will be photos on Monday.  Really we have to wait until MONDAY..... :-(

At 0606 Team Billand reported Pohaku (RO28) at Secrets. Warren & Nancy reported her departure at 1415.

At 1000 the Billands found RIP (RR70) once again at Maili Point.

A Tammy T text at 1028 brought word that they had Aukai (RL12), Ka’ena (RO40)&RW02 at Ka’ena Point.

1/4/2016 DB Dailies: RM38,Buster,Kimo Kai, Kolohe&RK36@RI, Benny@White Plains, Pohaku@Paradise Cove, Nihoa&BG@Turtle Bay, Right Spot&U/U@Moku Nui

At 0709 I found RM38 & Buster (RV08) up in the Morning Glory, left of 1BS on Rabbit Island. Both would later move down. RM38 would remain at the left end. Buster would enter the water and haul out again later.

At 0938 on a pan I found Kimo Kai (RT12) fronting 3BS. He had been hiding in the vegetation on my first passes and I did not see him. He would remain at that location all day.

At 0954 Kolohe (RW22) hauled out 30 ft right of 1BS, where he would remain.

At 1017 on a pan I found RK36 on the water front rocks of Seal Rock Inlet. He would remain there all day.

At 1030 Buster hauled out to join Kolohe. It was then that I saw that Buster has begun his molt. D#1 is 2%.

On one of my daily Instagram checks I happened upon a shot from Kevin Reich, showing little Kea (RN46) cruisin’ the underwater realm. His trademark white fore flipper shining brightly.

At 0812 Team Billand called to advise that surfer Rich at White Plains had reported and cordoned off Benny (RE74). The Billands confirmed the Benny ID. He would depart at 1715.

At 1025 the Billands reported Pohaku (RO28) at Paradise Cove. Mahalos to Nancy, Melina & Warren.

Carola Johnston had a busy day at Turtle Bay. She found and documented Nihoa (R912) at Right Spot’s Spot, and BG (R303) at the Elbow. Thanks to Diga for continuing to build up my muscle bound thumbs with many a text.

At 1214 I got mail from my favorite DOCARE officer, Ken Lesperance, forwarding a shot of 2 animals at Moku Nui today, taken by a DOFAW worker. One appears to be Right Spot (R016). The other short, fat one could not be ID’d.  didn't hear anything from the crew... i can ask tomorrow....

1/3/2016 DB's Dailies: RM38, Kimo Kai,Buster,RK36,Kolohe@RG32@Rabbit Island, Pohaku@Paradise Cove, Benny@White Plains, Rocky@Ewa Beach, RI37@Laie, U/U@Turtle Bay

At 0743 I found RM38 & Kimo Kai (RT12) at the log, 40 ft left of 1BS on Rabbit Island. At 0744, another animal came into view from behind the Morning Glory back at the cliff. It would prove to be Buster (RV08) he would move down and into the water. I did not see him again today. The other two would also move down at 1056. I would see neither of them again today.

On a pan at 0757 I found RK36 on the water front rocks of Rocky Right Beach. He would remain there all day.

At 0810 Kolohe (RW22)&RG32 (L5 bleach) hauled out fronting Left Greenery. The would snooze away the rest of the day.

The Billands responded to a Dana call at 0900 about an animal at Paradise Cove. At 0922 they confirmed the Pohaku (RO28) ID. Mahalos to Nancy,Jean&Bev.

At 0922 they got a call about an animal at White Plains. At 1015 they confirmed the Benny (RE74) ID. He was at the fenceline. The Billands stayed until after dark, before departing. Benny remains. Mahalos to Rich,Larry&Jean.

While Barbara stayed with Benny , Robert responded to a call about an animal in Ewa Beach. At 1015 he confirmed Rocky (RH58) at access #185C, Ewa Beach.

Gina Walker did her morning shift at Turtle Bay, and came up zero. She responded to a call about an animal at Bathtub Beach, Laie, on her way home. She found the animal at 1354. Gina’s excellent shots confirm the RI37 ID by tag.

Evening mail from Dana brought shots of a late afternoon haul out at Turtle Bay. Unfortunately, no ID is possible due to lack of information in the shots.
