1/31/2016 DBs Dailies: Kolohe&RG32@Rabbit Island, Pohaku@Paradise Cove, Rocky@Kermit's Reef, Nihoa@2nd Beach, RIP,RW02,Kimo Kai&Ka'ena@ Ka'ena Point

At 0848 I found Kolohe (RW22) just hauling out and moving up to the Morning Glory at 1BS, and RG32 just hauling out fronting 3BS, on Rabbit Island. He too would move up for a snooze in the Morning Glory. After a snooze Kolohe would return to the water at 1024 and haul out again to Rocky Right Beach at 1036. Both remained all day.

Neither I nor Melanie found any other critters today.

At 0550 Team Billand advised that security had reported Pohaku (RO28) once again at Paradise Cove, probably overnighting. The Billands confirmed the Pohaku ID at 0621. Melina would report her departure at 1335.

The Billands called at 1109 to say that they had been shown somebody’s video of an animal at Nimitz Cove (Kermit’s Reef). They judged it to be a probable Rocky. At 1146 they confirmed the Rocky (RH58) ID.

At 1156 Gina Walker reported having found Nihoa (R912) just beyond Kahuku Point at 2nd Beach.

Lesley M., called at 1307 with the report from the End of the World. She was solo again today (Marilyn is on the mainland). She reported RIP (RR70) on the Back Beach, RW02 & Kimo Kai (RT12) at the Main Pool, & Ka’ena (RO40)between the Runway & Ka’ena’s Pool.

DB's Dailies (cont) U'ilani Brought Back to the Sea

I was lucky enough to have the time today to participate in this special ceremony.... What made this gathering quite special was a number of people who had never met before were all there to scatter their loved ones into the ocean....
I am honored to have spent this special moment in time with all of them.... It is always good to see fellow volunteers and I never pass up a chance to share a hug.
Thank you to all of you for your time, love and support.
