In yesterday's news Team R& finally got power back so they sent their update from yesterday.

On the west side their first seal was RS32 who hauled up after they had followed her for 25 minutes. At first they though it was a big turtle until she came up to the surface.

Then they found two seals side by side near seal inlet. They couldn't ID the male, didn't see tags, scar on right side of face. He has a pudgy face, but couldn't come up with an ID.

The female was RL70 Leina. They confirmed her ID while viewing their photos. They saw her white nails and one red tag.

Today they only found one seal. They were thrilled to see RL20 Kalua resting on the rocks. Both his applied bleaches N17 & N11 were visible.  

When they did a  recheck later, he was gone.

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:40 to 2:07 pm. Once again the moms and pups were the only seals on island during that time.

On LPB were MO3 and PO3. MO3 is looking smaller each time Marilyn sees her, while PO3 increases in size. Marilyn could see the applied 3 bleach on its mid back. Marilyn won't be surprised if MO3 leaves soon. She'll be known as Mystery Mom.

Between the 1BS and 2BS were RF34 Pua and her pup PO5. The pup was mostly hidden behind Pua the entire viewing session. Both seem to be doing fine. Marilyn could see at least one of Pua's red tags.

Initially RK38 and her pup PO4 were in the water. They ultimately hauled out and moved up the beach before they went into nursing mode. The pup nursed for a time and then crawled around behind mom. Marilyn could see PO4's Allflex tag on RRF. RK38 still seems to have a fair amount of fat.

Marilyn had company today while viewing Rabbit Island. Diane joined her and they observed the island from 11:43 to 1:27 pm. There were seven seals seen during that time.

Again on LPB were MO3 and PO3. Marilyn thinks they had just hauled out from a swim when they started viewing and returned to the water when Marilyn and Diane were getting ready to leave.  Marilyn was unable to see an applied 3 bleach on PO3.

RF34 Pua and her pup PO5 were on the beach about 50 feet Makapuu direction from the 3BS. There were several nursing sessions and lots of snoozing. She did not see an applied 5 bleach on PO5.

About 100 feet Makapuu of 3BS was RK38 Hali'a/Lauloa. PO4 was hidden behind mom for almost the entire viewing session. They only saw PO4's head when the pup was nursing behind mom.

In the SRI surge channel was what Marilyn believes to be R430 formerly TempN25: sub-adult to adult size, mottled tan male belly, no tags and a shallow pit scar near the LFF.

Team R&B gor word there were two seals that hauled up at plains, but one took off. The smaller seal was on shore. By the time they made it out there, RT06 the smaller seal was still there. He was alert, kept looking behind him. Team R&B kept looking for another seal but nine came. They didn't stay.

They had their grand kids today, so they got back to the west side late.  There was one seal on the rocks, adult female. They think this is RL70 big girl! Her hind flippers were hidden by the rocks and they thought they saw her white nails.

April 23. 2026 Thursday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Team R&B💕  Marilyn did view Rabbit Island but she is having internet problems, she'll send off her report when she can.

After a couple of stressful days they finally got the repairs done to their heater at home.

They got text about three seals on the rocks on the west side. When they arrived there was their first female of the day Miss Leina RL70. She is looking large and green. They were very happy to see her in that she isn't always easy to find. 

After looking around a bit there were two more seals on the rocks resting. There was Kala RH76 with Nalu R3CX. They were thrilled since they hadn't seen RH76 in five days. Also nice that Nalu was resting peacefully with her.

Next they headed over to plains. They saw four seals in the water fighting. They ID'd RL08 who is turning out to be a big bully, Then there was RG32 who landed briefly with RL08 and they fought. Then swam down the waterline and was gone.

The third seal kept trying to haul out but people were in the way all taking pictures with their phones. Team R&B ran for signs, and a surfer was very kind and helped them out. Then the lifeguard came and got the rest of the signs set up. The seal was RN14 Kalani who was finally able to land and he stayed. The fourth seal was gone. Team R&B wasn't able to get an ID.

An update to the Unknown Male that has been hanging out at Iroquois has been ID'd by NOAA as R427. He has only been seen on Oahu a few times in the past couple of years, and has been seen on Big Island and Kauai. His best identifiers are left chest scarring, hind flipper notches and deep line creases on the sides of his muzzle.

Team R&B started their day at Pokai and found Miss Leina RL70. She was in her favorite spot where the native flowers bloom. She was so still and getting lots of rest  in this crappy weather. When they went back later she was gone.

They headed over to yoks and found RG28 Lefty high up on the shore. He is about 80% molted and

resting peacefully.

While onsite they saw a seal from afar and made their way to the area. The tourist were all heading over. They ID'd RP30 Puka and he soon scooted his way to the water once the crowds where around.

They got a call about a seal at Nimitz so they made their way over. When they got to the area they found old dude R407 Kawika. He for sure likes this area. 

Team R&B made the rounds today with a little break in the weather.

They found R416 Makalii snoozing at Nimitz. She was on shore on this cold, breezy drizzly day. He looked healthy peaceful and content.

They continued their search and over at Electric Beach they spotted two seals on shore. It was RL08 with the lovely RL12 Aukai. They were both snoozing peacefully.

Team R&B realized they hadn't see their boy Nalu R3CX. So they went looking and were happy to find him out there foraging as usual.

While watching over Nalu they educated some folks they were asking what they were taking pictures of. As Team R&B were walking away

they saw there was a commotion in the water. At first they thought it was a shark, but watching carefully they saw there was a small seal with Nalu. The lighting was dark but they managed to get on tag shot and confirmed the little one was RU40. Then they saw another seal with a scar on its neck and figured out it was RL70.   It was a good seal day.
