Jan. 31, 2023 Tuesday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 1:25 to 3:05 and there were four seals during her observation. Marilyn had some technical difficulties with the camera so the photos aren't aren't as sharp as usual.
On LPB near each other were two Unknown Juveniles:
U/J #1: juvenile size, older coat, light tan belly and at least two tags. Marilyn believes its a female but could not confirm.
U/J #2: juvenile size, light gray belly and probably two red tags.
On the waterfront down from the 3BS was a Subadult Male: small subadult to larger juvenile size, light male belly and two tags. This is most likely the same U/J from yesterday.
At 2 pm Marilyn became aware of a seal on the waterfront rocks near SRI. The Unknown
Adult never showed anything but its dorsal side. The only thing she had to work with is its adult size.

Team R&B started their day at the outfall. They watched a seal foraging, but it did not hang around for long.
Then they spotted a boat and realized there were whales. They watched them put on a great show.

Next they spotted a big seal landing on shore at another beach. They watched from afar was R413 Makamae. They witnessed as people arrived and they got close. One woman laying down next to R413. Team R&B called the hotline.

Team R&B went to check secrets since its been a hot spot as of late. When they arrived there were two males on shore, no signs. So they got the two they have and put them up, educated folks and called the hotline.
RG28 Lefty and RG32 were on shore resting. Not everyone was good not disturbing the seals.
Finally a volunteer arrived, so Team R&B removed their signs and left for the day.

At their next stop they were happy, happy to find RL08 hauled
out on the rocks. He was sound a sleep.  From afar they spotted two seals on a nearby beach.
They hurried over, only to find two tourist visiting the seals up close. There was R3CU was with R413 Makamae.  A could of guys walked up and took there photos then walked away when they realized they were being watched.

Their final stop of the day at another west side location they found one seal. On lower rocks was RW02 PvKauai, and he was doing fine. Team R&B didn't stay for long just enough time to get an ID.

Jan 30, 2023 Monday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 11:45 to 12:45 and there was one seal on island today.
Just as she arrived she spotted an Unknown Juvenile coming down from the dune under the 3BS.  The U/J moved down to the waterfront. U/J: larger juvenile to small subadult size, very light belly, but could not be sure of its gender. She saw two red tags during a flipper flex.

Team R&B were out and about and at 7:40 they spotted a seal from a far on shore. They kept
an eye on it. But then.... a lady taking photos from behind the seal. So they headed over to the site. When they arrived a volunteer was on site with signs up. Seems there was a training group of volunteers. They ID'd R413 Makamae, snoozing next to an old tree branch.

From there Team R&B headed over to the outfall where they found the two infamous fish thieves foraging.  They ID'd RL20 Kalua enjoying himself in a school of Akule, the little piggy.
The other seal was none other number one thief Kaale RH32.

While watching Kaale and Kalua they where looking through binoculars and happen to see a seal at the other end just hauled out. They hurried over to fins R3CX Nalu. They called the hotline and explained there was another seal in the area. The volunteers in training walked over to observe. YEA!   more volunteers.

They hurried out to another area and a volunteer was on site at secrets with signs and ropes up. Melina was on site as well as a bunch of tourist.
There were four seals hanging out on shore.  Starting at the left was RG32 and Kekoa Alii RK72 snoozing together. Then there was RG28 Lefty and RN14 Kalani together. They got a pic with the four boys lined up. Amazing!

Jan 29, 2023 Sunday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Team R&B💕  Just an FYI: I anticipate there will be some big news coming out sometime this week.

The first stop at a west side location they found RW02 PvKauai. He was alone on the rocks, resting and doing fine.

Heading over to the outfall they spotted a smaller seal foraging. After a lot of time studying the critter they ID'd RL20 Kalua. He never hauled out while they were there.

At another location close by they see there are two seals on the rocks. Both snoozing on this blustery, cold, rainy day.
They were able to ID RL08 off to the right. Then they were shocked and over joyed that the other male on the rocks was R407 Kawika. They haven't seen him in quite some time. He appears to have a new coat and is looking good.
They actually returned to the site to make sure it was in fact him.

Next they made it out to secrets since its been busy. There were three males again.
Kekoa Alii RK72 was by the naupaka bushes. Next to him was Kaale RH32, by the bushes and also the entrance way.
The third seal took them a bit longer to get the ID. He didn't move much but they eventually ID'd RG32. ( also after two visits.)

Apparently this cold, rainy day did not slow Team R&B down.  They went out to another beach and on shore with an excellent zone set up was RH92 Nalani. Mahalo to the lifeguards for setting up the zone for the gorgeous and very plump Nalani.
They watched as she flipped over, and noted ever since she was a pup she would does it in the cutest way by flipping fast and plop her body down.
Her tags, scars on head, face and foreflipper were visible and she really is looking big.

Backtracking they found the last seal of the day, it was their old dear Nalu R3CX.
He was resting in a zone set up by volunteer. He was looking quite content resting after foraging the last few days. Nice he changed locations, at least here he won't be bothered by dogs and humans.
