Not finding Sadie at Rabbit Island yesterday, gave me all kinda’ stress, so you can imagine my joy when I found her big ol’ bulbous bod waiting for me directly below 1BS on RI on my first look at 0656. She would remain all day, and was the only RI resident today. There was still no pup as of end of day.

An unknown White Plains user called at 0854 with the report of 2 animals just hauling out fronting the first cottages, at WP.

Vera Cober was with Ewa Girl (RS00) at Winds Sock at that moment, and I passed on to her the word about WP animals. She responded and dealt with the haul outs, confirming R018&Haupu (RB24) together. During her trip to WP M&M (R020) had arrived at the shower at 0932, at WP. Thanks too to Trudy & Wendy for a long hard day in the trenches at WP.

Dana called at 1056 with the report of R5AY at Hauula.
Evening email from Kimo Smith brought shots of his day at Ka’ena Point with Ka’ena (RO40), RW30, RW02, Kolohe (RW22)& Kerby (RW08).

At 1225 Diane (Diga) Gabriel called with the report of Meli (RF20) & Kaikaina (RL54) together at the Elbow, Turtle Bay.

3-31-2014 Lesley's Turtle Bay Update

Diane & I headed out early to do our Monday monitoring of Windward side and TBR including shifts with the pup .
We were driving past Hau'ula when by the corner of our eyes we saw R5AY "Honey Girl" upon the beach sleeping. It looked like she overnighted we reported her to the Hotline and to V/C Dana.

At TBR Diane headed out to the pup site combing the beaches along the way looking for RF20 "Meli" that had been reported in a cove on the reefs of the Main Beach.
While I went to participate of a 2 hour meeting with the NSOEC for the 2014 NSOF (North Shore Education Coalition & North Shore Ocean Fest)

I met up with Diane @ Elbow Beach were she was finally taking a break from hiking up and down the beaches searching for RF20 "Meli". The little one had hauled out  and was now sleeping peacefully along side her sister RL54 "Kaikaina".

I then hiked out to 2nd Beach / Marconi Rd and found seal free beaches so I hiked back to Elbow Beach

After a long nap the seals rolled down for a water play session for proximally and hour or more. They hauled out together and we were sure that little "Meli " was sleeping with an eye open, cause every move her sister did she was right up beside her.

Don Porter arrived for the last shift and we left.

It was a great opportunity to see the sisters play together. We were also very curious to find the big U/U seal reported yesterday, but were not lucky so the U/U still remains a total U/U  Aloha,  Lesley

3-30-2014 DB's Dailies: U/F,Aukai,Mojo,Kainoa@RI, Kaiwi@TBL, R018,M&M@WP, Kaikaina, U/U&Meli@TB,

The most notable absence on my first look at Rabbit Island at 0700, was no Sadie !! That was to be the case all day. Only Sadie knows !!

Also at 0700 I found Aukai (RL12) to the right of 1BS. She would relocate to 3BS at 1032 where she spent the rest of the day.

The same U/F juvenile animal was once again to the left of 1BS, and would remain all day, and remains an U/F with no tags and no visible markers.

At 1015 Mojo RI17) hauled out to the left of 1BS on RI. He initially interacted with the little female but ultimately settle down and snoozed away the rest of the day, until he alerted at 1554, obviously seeing something in the water. After a few minutes I saw him and a smaller animal swimming to the west. I saw neither again.
At 1116 Kainoa (RN04) hauled out to the right of 1BS where he spent the remainder of the day.

At 1240 Marilyn and I journeyed to Hanauma Bay, and Missus W, did the Toilet Bowl trek . She found Kaiwi (RK96) at her usual location near the bowl.

Vera Cober checked in at 0958 with the report of R018 at White Plains.

At 1040 Dana called with the report of the arrival of M&M (R020) to the showers at WP. Vera’s photos confirm both the R018 & M&M ID.

Evening email from Karen Rohter after her Turtle Bay shift, brough word and shots of Kaikaina (RL54) at Right Spot’s Spot, and Meli & an U/U together at the elbow.
