Today's dailies are brought to you by Tammy of Team T&D, Team Billand, a quick observation from old posse pal Jeannie M. and Jason O'Rourke.
Tammy hiked Ka'ena Point today with Lesley. Just as they arrived at the pup site they could hear an adult seal barking. They looked and looked did not see an adult but did see PO4 Kai playing and foraging in the shallows. After a bit they hear more barking and saw a seal swimming in and it barking. It was Leia RL42 and she kept barking, hauled out and barked some more. There was no reaction of PO4. Momma Leia backed a few more times then swam off. They waited to see if she would return, but she did not. Looks like PO4 Kai is a weaner.
Their next find was RL74 Kami on the reefs. While taking some photos they notices movement next to her and a larger seal was entering the water. Lucky they got the shot for the ID, Ka'ena RO40, his new scar on his back.
The next critter was an adult on the outer reefs completely dry. Lesley was able to ID R3CX.
On the way out they stopped to check on Kai PO4 and he was playing in his cove with Mom no where around.
The last seal they ID'd although they did see it early on was RG28 Lefty.
Team Billand spotted two seals coming into the area when they arrived. Just as they got to the location both critters landed. It was Lei Ola RH48 and RN14 Kalani following her every move.
Both are in good condition, and let's just say if Lei Ola ends up pupping next year we know who Daddy is. :-)
Their next find was RL20 Kalua alone on the left side resting with the rising tide. He is very green but not molting yet.
Later in the day Team Billand took the hike to Ka'ena West and only found one seal. It was RW02 PvKauai snoozing in the shallows alone.
Although there was only one seal they did enjoy the waves and got to see this little pony.
Jeannie M. sent word she spotted K80 today at Turtle Bay and possibly Kaimana.
An email from Jason O'Rourke included some photos from his recent visits with Nohea and Kaiwi. These photos were taken over the last few weeks and gives you a sense of her growth and yes she has grown. Thank you Jason for sharing.
