06/13/2020 Saturday Act-With-Care (81) Monk Seal Dailies

Aloha good people, well it's a weaner kind of day. We have news from Team Billand, Marilyn, Lesley and Melody.  Lesley's Ka'ena update is part two of the dailies.

Seems everyone got to enjoy the company of one little weaner or another.  Team Billand came up empty on the west side today so they decided to visit with N2 Nohea. When they arrive a volunteer was on site. Nohea was in the cove seeking out cucumbers as all good weaners do. She spent her time floating and swimming in the shallows.
Finally the kid hauled out on the rocks. She looking less pudgy, but then again so would I if I had to deal with the surf to get around.
Team Billand noticed she has a natural bleach on her head, almost like her Momma Kaiwi. She also has her new applied bleach N2.

Team Billand got word of three seals at KoOlina today. They went to check it out and it was good they did. They found RH32 Kaale, RL12 Aukai and Benny RE74, all snoozing until Ka'ale made a move and all hell broke loose.
Benny dive bombed Kaale over Aukai, she tried to get away from them. Benny bit Kaale, Kaale bit back and Aukai slipped away.
It was intense loud fight, lots of slapping, biting and dive bombs. Benny was mean, and Kaale did not back down to the older dude. At times they each had the other pinned down, biting at the flippers and necks.
Thankfully the battle was between the boys and did not involve Aukai, who entered the water. This caused the two boys to stop and galumph to her.  They entered the water heading for her making wakes in the water. Aukai took off heading west.  Team Billand called the security to let them know the seals may haul out in the lagoon and to keep people back giving all the fighting.

Marilyn spent the morning chasing after Nohea as the kid went up and down the coast. Marilyn was happy to get to the pier to sit and view Rabbit Island.
There were five seals and clear sunny skies. Out on the rock flats of LPB were weaners PO1 and PO3.
Mom and PO5 were at Left Point Beach.
Unknown female was at middle cliffs area. Adult female who is molting with light coloration under the molt and at least one tag.
Looks to be about 65% molted with belly almost clean but the dorsal said still with the old coat. There is a chance this is RF34 Pua (PO1's Momma) who came back for her post-weaning molt.
Unknown male at seal rock inlet, adult size and dark mottled male belly with at least one tag. There could be an applied bleach in the dorsal area, which would make this RG32.

Melody went out to the west side to visit with weaner N4 Ikaika/Kai. He was in the tide pools when she arrived and where he stayed the entire time during her visit.
