06/05/2020 Friday Safer-At0Home (73) Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand, Lesley, Marilyn and Melody. Lesley's Ka'ena update is part two of the dailies.

Melody shared some photos of Rocky from yesterday (Thursday) resting at Magic Island. The surf was high so instead of snoozing in her usual spot the trough, she hauled out on the sand dune. There were lots of people out and about, one guy almost hit her passing by on his bicycle. Melody reported her to the hotline, but no one was available to respond.

Team Billand's first find of the say was RL20 Kalua seen on lower rocks. The little green man was all by himself today. He was on a slant on the rocks, trying to balance himself, then he rolled and fell into the water hole. He stunned himself! He then rolled in the hole, galumphed out on the rocks again.
On their re-check in the afternoon he was still there but had moved to the right, upside down in a little water hole.

Next they found two seal on a beach close to the outfall area. One was moving as if it were agitated, and there were people near by.

There was Aukai RL12 with Ka'ale RH32 on shore. There were a couple of people who got close and both seals entered the water.
Team Billand met a really nice woman with her two children who were happy to see them. As they were concerned about the people who had gotten close to the seals.

Team Billand went to another nearby beach and found Aukai and Ka'ale there. They also saw two more seals in the water foraging but could not get an ID. They appeared to be adult size, and one of them was really green.

Aukai is looking good, not too thin considering she just weaned PO3, but she is very green. Ka'ale is very green and very hefty.

BIG NEWS OF THE DAY!!!! We have PO5!! YES! The UAF on Rabbit Island gave birth sometime in the afternoon. We strongly believe the UAF is in fact Sadie, who is right on time. Thank you to Marilyn and Gayle for staying on top of this one! So to sum it up as of today 3 of the 5 pups on Oahu were born on Rabbit Island this year... and they the odd bunch PO1, PO3 and PO5!
