06/18/2020 (part 2) Thursday Lesley's Ka'ena Update

10 sightings / 8 HMS day including a new kid on the rock !!

Started of with PO4 Kai D57 playing in Luana's Tide Pool
When I made it to the point my first sighting was RG28 Lefty on dome reefs on a very unusual spot, later he did a swim by in the Main Pool. As the tide was very high he swam in a big circle passing by the flat reefs, going out and coming back into the Main Pool thru the outer reefs.
Next was RO40 Ka'ena ant the entrance of his pool - shortly after a second seal show up and there was a territorial dispute. The seal was RW02 PVKauai, who we later found freshly hauled out at Hidden Beach.
Oblivious to the commotion in a pool beside the boys was RL74 Kami. She never moved.
The big surprise was finding a BEAUTIFUL young spotless seal at Back Beach with a H86 tag. Turns out she a Kaho'olawe kid that spends time on Maui. She's seal #32 of my individual seal count here at Ka'ena Point since January 1st 2020.
Team T&D arrived, we observed and documented her .
On our way out we spotted RK40 Napua on the little beach she used to go as a weaner.
Back on this side we checked on PO4 Kai, he was hauled out sleeping peacefully.
Down the beach in front of the house RK36 Kauai Kolohe was hauled out sleeping.

On a side note:
- The photo of one of the Albatross fields there are 12 Albatross chicks !
- Tammy said to Dave on their way out today that she wanted to see a new seal. Hey T all you had to do was say so and it happened !
- The small birds are our new kitchen porch visitors and they absolutely love papayas.
More tomorrow ðŸŒº
