06/14/2020 Sunday Act-With-Care (82) Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand, Marilyn and Melody.

Melody got a text last evening that Rocky had hauled out in Waikiki in the evening. So Melody was up and at em early this morning to check on her. Rocky did not disappoint she had spent the night and was still there. Melody called her into the hotline, set up the signs and stayed with her for a couple of hours. There were a lot of folks on the beach this morning, dog walkers and even the birds got in on the action.
While hanging out with Rocky, a couple of women approached Melody to say there was another seal a couple of beaches down. When Melody went to check there was Kaiwi RK96  resting. She was ID'd  by her natural bleach on her forehead. There was a volunteer on site. The surf was rising and little beach left for her to hunker down. Most likely she'll be heading out as the tide comes up.

Marilyn observed Rabbit Island this afternoon and found seven seals.
PO3 Momona was way out on the rocks flats to the left of LPB. This is as far out as she has seen any seal. He kept himself busy eating and playing in the tide pools. He was ID'd by larger weaner size, coloration and very light male belly.
Unknown Male and Unknown Unidentified near each other on the rock flats to the left of LPB. The UU was perpendicular and behind the UM so getting any kind of markers was impossible.
The UM is adult size, older coat, lighter male belly and a partial CC scar on left ventral side. CC scar suggest it might be R1KT but not enough to confirm.
Mom and PO5 were near another small seal that Marilyn believes to be PO1 Kahukai on LPB. If this is PO1 this would be Sadie's grandson ( RF34 Pua Sadie's daughter born 2014).  PO5 approached PO1 several times with no real reaction from Mom or PO1.   Hmmm PO5 would be PO1's uncle LOL.
In the middle cliff area, there was the same molting female that was there yesterday. Looks like she is about 85% complete. Marilyn still thinks this is Pua RF34.

At 8 am Team Billand found Ka'ale foraging at the outfall. He was seen taking fish, going outside the outfall then coming back in over and over again. Team Billand watched him for about an hour. There was one point where some women decided to go in for a swim. The fishermen yelled out to them to get out of the area, as it is dangerous.

Team Billand decided to go and check on N4 Kai and when they arrived he was busy playing in Luana's pond area. He then swam to the right, galumphed up on shore and tried going over the rocks ending up on the sand.
He is a handsome fat independent kid and looks to be doing just fine.
Team Billand spotted a seal to a swim by bobbing up and down. They were not able to get a positive ID but did see a cookie scar mid back and another CC near it's butt.
Last but not least they found Luana RN58 and Squinty R330 hidden on the rocks. Luana barely moved for the three hours they were there. Squinty who was a little more visible kept checking on Luana who was close by. He kept his distance like a gentleman.
