06/20/2020 Saturday Act-With-Care (88) Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand, Marilyn, Lesley and Melody.  Lesley's Ka'ena update is part two of the dailies.

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island this afternoon and spotted three seals.
Mom and PO5 were initially in a depression on LPB and she could only see Mom until the last view minutes before she left. PO5 headed to enter the water, so Mom and the kid went into the water.
Near the 3BS was PO3 Momona hauled out.  He was ID'd by his large weaner size and coloration, male belly and no tags.

Team Billand was at the outfall early this morning. They spotted a seal passing heading towards KoOlina. With their eagle eyes and knowledge they were able to ID Benny RE74.
After waiting for any other sightings they decided to head over to KoOlina and sure enough they found da Benny at Lagoon 4. Security had put up ropes and signs. Team Billand called the hotline and headed out to check for other critters.

Team Billand headed back to check if there were any critters in the usual spots. When they arrived at one west side location there was R3CX Nalu near the seal inlet resting. The waves moved him around and he ended up wedging himself in the rocks.
Then there was RH76 Kala all the way to the right by water front rocks snoozing. She also got hit by the rough waves so she moved.
Lastly te spotted a little green sean foraging off the point. They were not able to get a positive ID.

Melody was in Waikiki checking on her white terns, when she got a text there was seal on one of the beaches.  She went to check it out and there was Kaiwi laying on a short strip of sand getting washed over by the waves.
She raised herself up and took a good look around to determine her next move. She galumphed up the retaining wall and made her way with no problem up onto the sidewalk. She made herself comfortably against the small coping on the retaining wall and rested against it.  Melody did the vest she could to adjust the SRA that was there when she arrived. She called the hotline to inform them of the situation. Melody stayed for a bit to educate people especially since Kaiwi was in a vulnerable spot. Melody had to leave after a couple of hours, and unfortunately there were no volunteers available to respond.
