9/14/2018 Monk Seal Dailies (part 1) U/U, RR70, RN14, RH48, RK72, RO40, RW02, RN58, RK96, RH58

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand, Lesley. Tammy, and Melody.  And the sun came came out today!

Team Billand went out to Ka'ale's Kitchen this morning and saw a seal coming into the outfall. Initially they thought Ka'ale but upon closer look at their photos they don't think it was him, He was reported as an unknown.

After leaving the outfall they went to a nearby beach to check and when they arrived they heard barking. There were two critters, and they were having a small fight. They ID'd RIP RR70 and Kalani RN14.  Looks like Kalani was in the process of hauling out on the rocks, and RIP was in the water hole. During their fight RIP & Kalani took off to sea, there was man in a kayak was passing the area when one of them popped out of the water.
Kalani came slithering, slowly, looking around if any one else was in his spot. Nope, he had the place to himself, so he came up on the rocks and settled in HIS water hole and went to sleep.
They rechecked on him in the afternoon and he was still there sleeping alone and peaceful.

Next stop on the westside they found Lei Ola RH48 who had just hauled up on the lower rocks. She was alert, waves washing over her and then settled in. She was still there on their afternoon check, laying on her side nice and dry. And yes there is still that darn hook.

A little further away they found Kekoa RK72, he was inland sleeping peacefully and totally unaware Lei Ola was off to the left of him. He did move down to the waterhole and he squeezed in and made himself comfortable.

Team Billand did the Ka'ena west trek and did not find any seals, but did see lots of mud puddles.

Tammy met up with a facebook friend who was visiting Hawaii for the first time, so Tammy brought her out to Ka'ena Point. Once out at the point they found Ka'ena RO40 in the main pool. While they were there PvKauai RW02 entered the main pool from the side. He was aware of Ka'ena looking over to him and barking at him. The boys managed to keep the peace by staying on their own side.
At hidden beach they found RN58 Luana in a not so lady like pose. ( I say hey, that's how I lay around the house when no one is around ).

Melody had an appointment in Honolulu today so she took advantage of her time and check on a few spots. (For those who don't know, Melody is also a bird enthusiast and went to check on some white tern chicks).  Melody also got lucky by finding Kaiwi RK96. She had just hauled out of the water and resting and sneezing.  Melody called the hotline and reported her.

Later in the day Melody went to take some sunset photos when she found Rocky RH58 snoozing in the naupaka. She hardly moved except to lift her head. Melody called in Rocky and was told by the hotline that earlier Miss Rocky had been at Pearl Harbor today. She hauled out on a ramp, not sure but this might be a first.... so Melody wants to know is she now a navy seal?
