Marilyn hiked Ka'ena Point today from 8:32 am to 12:30 pm and saw six seals during that time.
First find was RL47 Kamakana: adult size, two red tags, new coat, male belly. He looks healthy. (He is RB12 Sadies' 2019 Rabbit Island pup).
Next there was RW02 PvKauai, but he was on a side of a berm and Marilyn wasn't able to get a good photo.
Then there were two seals a short distance from each other:
R330 Squinty: adult size, male belly, older coat and 3CB tag.
RP96 Loli'i: sub-adult to adult size, male belly and P96 tag.
In the NAR were two seals:
The first one was visiting all the spots from Ka'ena's pool to the main pool: adult size, old coat, male belly, pit scar at the base of LFF and scar over left eye. This was RN04 Kainoa, whom Marilyn has not seen in aged. He is RB12 Sadie's 2013 Rabbit Island pup.
The final seal was mostly submerged, but she believes this was Lefty RG28. (no photos)
Team R&B started on the west side, they had no idea that a seal was below them in the rocks. It was their beloved RH76 Kala who is about 60% molted. She was alert as if there was another seal and there was.
They spotted another seal to the right far out foraging. It was Lei Ola RH48 and she was alone today.
They also so another seal foraging, it was sub-adult size, clean coat, tags but unsure of sex. It was reported as an unknown sub-adult.
After an appointment they headed over to plains and found RG89Huakai high up on shore. They hurried to try and see another seal way down. Much to their surprise on shore further down was R416 looking green and plump. He left the area about 3 pm after throwing up.
Their last find was at nimitz, it was late and the traffic was bad. The seal was R407 Kawika on shore very alert and moving about. There were a couple people in the area, they were walking down, but then turned around. R407 is well into his molt and will soon be the handsome male that he is, but for now he's a raggedy mess.
