Team Billand arrived at the outfall early morning. They spotted two seals foraging at the outfall close to the jetty but remaining in the open ocean. They were able to get a "good" ID shot, but based on experience and watching Ka'ale the past several months they knew on the seals was him (RH32).
They did manage to get a tag shor of the other critter and it was RIP RR70. They would find him later on a recheck hauled out at one of the nearby beaches.
After leaving the outfall Team Billand went to check other beaches along the coast. They did a check
to the South West side and found two seals. Volunteers were on site. There the two seals were on shore both dirty covered in sand (or better known as shake and bake). The two critters female RO28 Pohaku in the company of none other than da Benny RE74.
Pohaku is looking better, putting on some weight and her ribs aren't showing. Da Benny is looking quite green and a healthy weight. Seems Pohaku rather have Benny around instead of RIP.
Team Billand headed back to the outfall early afternoon and Ka'ale was still there, foraging. There were numerous lines in the water. Ka'ale managed to snag some of the catch on the lines, and thankfully without incident. Not much Team Billand can do, so they waited patiently and finally Ka'ale left. He went far pass all the lines, beyond the snorklers to the open ocean. (at least for now).
Marilyn did two sessions at the pier today, a two hour morning session and a 45 minute afternoon visit. In the morning there were three seals. R1KT was alone on Left Beach, ID'd light male belly, N3 applied bleach.
RK38 Hali'a and an Unknown Male U/M were between Seal Rock Inlet and the 3BS. Hali'a was ID'd
by size, coloration, female belly and 2 tags. The U/M ID'd by male belly and 2 tags. The seal has started to molt about 30% of his cheat. Possibly an applied N32 bleach on left mid side and right shoulder but not clear enough to confirm. (could be sand)
Returning in the afternoon, the 3 seals were in the same location as the morning critter, and afternoon condition were overcast so photos were difficult to read.
In addition about 10 feet left of the 1BS was a seal ID'd as Weaner P06 by plump size, coloration and natural bleach on the lower left rear side.
Marilyn also met up with Tony Q who planned to take his drone for a spin, but unfortunately there were technical difficulties.
