Team Billand was out and about looking for Ka'ale without any luck, but they did stop by one of the Leeward Beaches and found Miss Pohaku RO28. They spotted her from a distance and when they went to check they ID's her resting on shore. There were two people very close taking photos, and then they quickly left when they saw Team Billand approaching.
Seems Pohaku had been there for a while there were several wallows and lots of foot prints all around her. Team Billand called the hotline to report her location. They don't know if anyone was available.
Team Billand did find Ka'ale back in his old neighborhood, he wasn't at the outfall but at one of his usual haul outs. He was resting on the rocks alone. They spotted a woman with a black drone hovering over Ka'ale. He had a definite reaction and was posturing. Team Billand explained the drone was too close and bothering the seal, The lady left, and Ka'ale went back to snoozing. Team Billand left the site.
Team Billand found Kekoa Alii RK72 at a west side beach sleeping alone between the rocks. He was well hidden but eventually moved out some, then turned on his side back to sleep. On their next check he was gone.
Next at a nearby beach they came across Leia RL42. She was alone and there were a lot of poles to the right corner of her. But since she was on shore snoozing she was fine. Her facial scars and her LFF markers were all visible. They left her as there were quite a few people at the beach and they didn't want to draw attention to her.
Marilyn did the Ka'ena Trek with Lesley this morning, I am waiting for the Lesley's update. They spotted four seals.
After returning from the point Marilyn headed off to Makai Pier and viewed Rabbit Island for just over an hour. It was a beautiful clear sunny afternoon. There were two seals together left of the 3BS.
One for sure was Weaner PO6 ID'd by natural bleach on left rear side, no tags and weaner coloration. She is a large girl for "her" age.
Seal #2 was an unknown juvenile male, very green. Male belly, 2 tags about the same size as PO6 but not as chubby.
Melody headed over to the beach very early to see if Rocky had spent the night. Sure enough she was pretty much in the exact spot as last evening. She stirred a bit when the sun broke through, did some tossing and turning and then she started to head down to the water. Took her about twenty minutes or so and then she was in the water gave off a big bark and headed out.
Melody returned tot the site this evening to see if she would arrive, but she did not. Maybe tomorrow.
