090618 Monk Seal Dailies: (part 1) RK72, RO28, RL42, RH58

Today's dailies are brought to you by Lesley, Team Billand and Melody. Lesley's Ka'ena Upfate is part two of the dailies.''

Melody sent a follow up to last evenings find. She worked with Team Billand this morning and they confirmed the HMS that was visiting was indeed Rocky. She was ID'd by the scar/ding on her right shoulder and her for the moment raccoon eyes. Seems like she overnighted it because she was there early morning. About 630 she got antsy and was back in the water 15 minutes later. She foraged for about 10 minutes and then headed out in a westerly direction. Melody called and updated the hotline.

Melody stayed in touch with Team Billand through out the day and was able to visit with Pohaku RO28 . After her visit with Pohaku she headed out to another west side beach and found Kekoa RK72. Melody most likely arrived on site with Kekoa  between Team Billand's second and third visit.
Shortly after her arrival Kekoa started moving around and the tide was rolling in over him. He was alert as if he was looking for another seal doing his bobbing and sniffing routine. He made a break for it and left heading north,

Team Billand found Kekoa Alii RK72 alone this morning resting on the rocks. He may be due for a molt soon, They made a second visit he was still there half way in the water, On their third visit he was gone, the tide was high and winds were strong, showing the effects of the hurricane that is out there.

At approximately 8 am Team Billand headed over to KoOlina and there was a seal that had been roped off by Security. They ID'd Pohako RO28 laying in the corner of the lagoon. She was resting peacefully and the tourist headed up the hill to view the seal. Team Billand did outreach and education. Called the hotline and when a volunteer arrived they left the site.

Around lunchtime Team Billand stopped by another west side beach and found RL42. She is looking good and healthy with a beautiful new coat.  They did the Ka'ena West Trek and found no seals but did come back to check on Leia RL42. She was not in the same spot, but luckily they found her just around the corner on the rocks. She was comfy and safe so they left to not draw attention.

BTW Team Billand did not see any seals at Ka'ale's Kitchen today. They got word there was a critter there just at 6 am but it left. No way to get an ID.
