Team Billand went to the outfall at 6:30 am this morning and there was Ka'ale RH32, doing his thing. Once again stealing fish from fishermen, they counted up to five stolen fish and was able to capture one of them in a photo.
There were a lot of fishermen there this morning, some were amused by Ka'ale's talents and othere were not so happy. Team Billand has done a great job doing outreach in this area, but having said that this is really bad habit for Ka'ale.
There was a small turtle hanging out at the outfall, very cute and was safe from hooks and Ka'ale.
Team Billand hung out until 8:30 and then Ka'ale left and disappeared.
Team Billand left the outfall and checked nearby beaches. There was Ka'ale hauled out on the rocks sleeping. The tide was rising fast and swishing his body around. He is so green, and chunky, but resting comfortably and most important no hooks.
Team Billand's next find came just before 11 am, on the west side. In the water hole there were two seals sleeping together. They got one ID on RG28 when he did his flipper flex. Then they were able to ID Lei Ola by her RFF mark and when she flipper slapped RG28.
Both RG28 and Lei Ola kept arguing and finally Lei Ola galumphed out of the hole first, with RG28 following right behind her. She argued with him, flying her hind flippers at him. RG28 kept getting closer sniffing at her "dakine".
She gave him a good slap, he finally got the message and went into the water. Volunteer Melina arrives to ID who was in the water hole. Just after noon they both left the site.
They headed back around 3 pm and both seals were still there arguing but together on the lower rocks with the rising tide.
RG28 isn't a mean seal, he's quite the gentleman, but Lei Ola well don't mess with her!
While hanging out with Lei Ola and RG28 Team Billand got a call about a seal at White Plains. As soon as they got there the seal took off, going in a westerly direction. They spotted the head bobbing going around the corner, when the life guards came by and picked up all the signs.
Team Billand was not able to get an ID so the seal was reported as a UU. (although they suspect it was Benny).
