June 13, 2019 Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Lesley, Team Billand, Team T&D, NOAA Team on Rabbit Island, Marilyn and me watching from the Pier.  Lesley's Ka'ena Update is part 2 of the dailies.

IT'S OFFICIAL!!!! RB12 Sadie is the mother of PO4. This was confirmed this morning by the NOAA Team that headed over to Rabbit Island.  We were hoping for the Team to apply some bleach to any other critters today, but the two other seals were too close to Mom and Pup to make it possible.
All together there were four seals on the island. Sadie RB12, PO4 (which they were not able to get an ID on the sex) RG32, and RK38 (Hali'a Aukai's 2018 pup).  RG32 4 year old male. RK38 1 year old female who is very very green.
It was good to see the NOAA Team and always a good day watching over the seals with Marilyn.

Team T&D did Ka'ena Point and crossed paths with Lesley in the NARS, They saw some of the same seals. The first critter they spied was RW02 PvKauai on the runway. He was gone 20 minutes later.
RO40 Ka'ena and RL12 Aukai were at back beach. Aukai is noticably larger than Ka'ena.
They had a UU swim through the outer pool, then 20 minutes later another UU swam through the main pool. Might be the same critter as they were unable to get an ID.
Lastly Team T&D stopped to visit Luana RN58 and PO2.  The kid is chubby and Mom is looking really thin. It will probably be any day now that we'll have a weaner.

Team Billand spent over an hour at the outfall early this morning. They immediately spot a green seal foraging... hmmm.... wonder who?  Then they see a fisherman reeling in a fish really fast and here come Ka'ale RH32 charging the catch. Thankfully the fisherman was quick enough he got his catch and Ka'ale popped up and stared at the fisherman.
Ka'ale spent his time going from left to right and in and out of the outfall and finally left.

Just after 8 am Team Billand went looking at another haul out and upon arrival they spotted a seal on the rocks. They ID'd RG28 who was sleeping. And then here come Ka'ale RH32 landing on the rocks about RG28. Ka'ale galumphs towards RG28 they greet each other and then Ka'ale joined RG28 in the small pond.
The two spent their time sniffing, hugging, playing and getting along. Funny in that Ka'ale usually head butts everyone, but today he was in a gentle mood.

Just before 11 am Team Billand was at a westside beach waiting to see if any seals were around or hauling out. Watching the water out of nowhere comes a seal full throttle to the lower rocks. Waves began to get a bit rough, covering rocks. It was da Benny RE74.
He went to lower rocks, bobbing up and down, looking and then went around to the right and kept looking bobbing up and down. Sounds like he was in cruise mode, cause as quick as he appeared he disappeared.

Team Billand did the Ka'ena West trek this afternoon. They spotted a green seal sleeping on the rocks. They were able to ID RN14 Kalani sleeping all alone today.
On their way back RN14 was still there but now on his belly and his applied bleaches were visible.
