Team Billand was at the outfall before 6:30 am. Their first sighting of Ka'ale RH32, he was foraging and stealing fish. Yes butthead is at it again, he stole four to five fish from the fishermen. By 7 am they didn't see him anymore.
Team Billand then headed over to a nearby haul out by 7:13 am and galumphed up on the rocks, looked around and then slid down the rocks to sleep in the shallow pond. As much as he probably would have liked to have a buddy to hangout with, he remained alone.
Team Billand carefully paid attention to Ka'ale's mouth there were no fishing lines, nor hooks visible. He is very green but normal.
Team Billand left to take care of some errands when they returned back to check on Ka'ale, Aliza, Cianna and an intern from NOAA were onsite.
Team Billand checked out a few beaches today and came up empty. They didn't put in their usual full day, as they were busy with other important matters. But of course it doesn't stop there, at 4 pm when they were finishing their day they got a call about a seal and two turtles at a westside beach. When they arrived there was just one turtle. They did inform the hotline.
Melody got a text about 5 pm tonight that a seal had shown up on the beach. By the time Melody got there security had put up the signs. Melody was able to get an ID, by the crescent cookie scar on right side of her chest, so she knew it was Rocky RH58. Eventually Rocky showed her NB on her LFF.
Melody called it into hotline and a little bit later volunteer Kristina showed up to get some photos and stayed for about 30 minutes. The beach got very busy with families and visitors, this gave Melody an opportunity to do some outreach. She left after sunset and Rocky seemed to be settled in just fine.
Ka'ale RH32
Is this a guilty face or what?
