June 16, 2019 Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Lesley, Marilyn, Team Billand and MCBH posse pal Anissa.
Lesley's Ka'ena update is part two of the dailies.

Team Billand first find was at 8:30 am when they were checking a westside location. There on the lower rocks was RG28 alone snoozing and looking dry. His cookie scars were visible for an ID and he later showed his tag. He galumphed to the shallow water for a swim and then came back up on the rocks.
They waited for two hours to see if another critter would come in and sure enough they spotted another seal coming from the west direction.
Here comes Ka'ale RH32, approaching cautiously made his way to lower rocks, and very gingerly looking who was around.
He climbed up on the rocks and went straight to his seal bud RG28.  They hit it off nicely with smooches, hugs, and being cute. Ka'ale made a few of his signature head butts to RG28, nothing drastic, RG28 really didn't react.  Ka'ale doesn't know when to stop and got a little rough, so RG28 moved and they settled down.

While at the site they received a call of a seal hauling out at Plains. Rob decided to take the ride and check it out. When he arrived he found the lovely fat Miss Pohaku near the fence line. Signs and ropes were already up and there were lots of people. They called the hotline to inform.

Team Billand had to cut the day short to go celebrate fathers day with the family.  Happy Fathers' Day Robert!

Email from Anissa informed us that KC spent the day at MCBH today. She is looking quite happy and content.

Marilyn was in the city to run some errands this morning, so she stopped by to see if RK96 Kaiwi was at the Outrigger Canoe Club from about 30 minutes. Kaiwi was there and taking up lots of prime real estate for Father's Day.  There was a woman with an " I  ❤ Monk Seals" T-shirt watching over Kaiwi.  Volunteer Brad arrived while Marilyn was there.
Kaiwi seemed totally unperturbed by the chaos around her. She was ID'd by her female belly, adult size, and RK96 tag. Marilyn did not see any evidence of molting.

Marilyn returned to the east side and viewed Rabbit Island from Makai Pier from 12:30 and 2:10. She saw no seals until RB12 Sadie and PO4 hauled out about 1 pm. PO4 is growing rapidly now. The pup nursed and then wandered around. Yesterday, we thought it was a female, today Marilyn thinks it might be a male. WHEW, glad we didn't bet any cats.  Guess we have to wait until NOAA goes back on island.
