June 6, 2019 (part 2) Lesley's Ka'ena Update

First thing was to stop by and check on RN58 "Luana" & PO2 "Kalua" D30 they were just hauling out from a nice long swim.

Team Tammy & Dave joined me and we headed out to the point. We stopped several times to do outreach.
In the NARS we noticed that most of the Albatross chicks were standing outside their nests. Most of them already have white chests and feathers on the back part of their bodies. Their necks and heads still have fluffy duvet. Fledging will start happening this month.
RO40 "Ka'ena" was hauled out on the flats on the East side of his pool. Tide was extremely low. We walked around but didn't see any other seal.
On our way back we spotted RG40 "Holokai" hauling out at 10Mnts Beach. His big "O" patch of the back makes it easy to ID him.

This evening at sunset I went for a last check on "Luana" & "Kalua" they were in the water and hauled out on the beach right in front of them was RW02 "PVKauai" (confirmed by his tag). He was ok until M&P decided to haul out. "Luana" said a couple of words and he started making his way to the water. M&P galumphed further up the beach, mom said another couple of words to "PVKauai", he entered the water and left.  More tomorrow πŸŒΊ
