June 9, 2019 Monk Seal Dailies:

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand, Marilyn and Lesley. Lesley's Ka'ena update is part two of the dailies.

Team Billand first sighting was before 7 am when they arrived at a westside location RG28 was already on the rocks. When they did their recheck he was still there and okay.  Seemed like the area was quite busy today, with boogie boards, SUPs, Kayaks and boats.

Their next find was just before 9 am when they came across Lei Ola just coming in She went on the lower rocks and went right to sleep. She is looking healthy and nothing new to report on her.

Team Billand went to visit Luana RN58 and PO2. Upon arrival Mom and pup were entering the shallow pond and then shuffling off into the ocean for a swim. The pup is a good diver, and swimming and finding Mom. Luana keeps an eye on him being a good Mom.  Team Billand notice that Mom and Pup were heading towards shore by a blue tent with folks close by.
Luana comes up on sand and a child goes too close and she barks at the boy. A woman gets close to take some photos and if that wasn't enough of a disturbance a guy approaches with two dogs on long leashes.  Luana again barks loudly mouth wide open, the man ran up shore with the dogs.
Team Billand tried to tell the lady and family not to go too close to Mom and Pup, and maybe move.
They did not change their position.  Team Billand called the hotline
to report what was going on asked that someone come to keep an eye on things. They were told a volunteer wasn't available until later. So Team Billand stayed and kept and eye on things.
Team Billand noticed a woman with a wild life shirt on, so they reported to her what was going on.  And then they spotted a volunteer coming.
As Team Billand was leaving they noticed a small seal coming in, and they informed the two ladies sitting in the pond to be aware. They could not get an ID on the little seal, it was very green and kept going towards Ka'ena side and was gone.

Marilyn was treated to meeting RH92 for the first time today. She stopped by an east side beach this morning and found her, Marilyn was there for almost an hour. She called the hotline with an ID and was told she had already been called in. Posse pal Gayle was retrieving the signs from the lifeguard stand and later volunteer Gina arrived.  RH92 was ID'd by her applied N92 bleach, H93 tag, female belly with several scars and the scar on the right side of her head.

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island for close to three hours.  When she first arrived there were three seals on the island. R1KT at LPB ID'd by male belly and applied N3 bleach.
UM about 60 feet to the Lanikai side of SRI, subadult to adult male on the waterfront rocks. This seal has a lighter male belly and two tags.
UU located about 15 feet Makapuu side of the UM. Appears to be juvenile HMS that was hiding behind the waterfront rocks. It had a lighter belly and Marilyn saw a few flipper flexes, but the critter never came fully into view.

AND then finally RB12 & PO4 were spotted briefly at the sandy beach in the middle cliff area. They immediately got back in the water and she did not see them again for another hour, when they hauled out at the waterline at the 3BS.  (wow they're really exploring the island)
A white and black outrigger canoe with a small motor and four people cause some anxiety. Teo of the people did wade onto the island and explored a portion of the island, although it doesn't appear they disturbed any seals. But Mom and PO4 hauled out soon after they left.
