June 11, 2019 Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand, Marilyn and Lesley. Lesley's update is part two of the dailies.

Team Billand checked the outfall and beyond early this morning. They spotted a seal foraging at the outfall and according to the fishermen no fish were stolen, the seal wasn't green or aggressive so we know it wasn't Ka'ale RH32. Team Billand was able to ID Aukai RL12 bu the scars. She left the outfall and went to forage to the right of the jetty, where some snorkelers followed her around until Aukai took off.
They spotted another seal coming from the right of the jetty, a smaller clean seal with two tags. They could not get an ID but thought it could be Lei Ola. The seal was reported as a U/U. The u/u did not stay and swam off.

Team Billand did the Ka'ena West trek and spotted a seal just 15 minutes into their walk.  There was a little critter with its tags showing sleeping like a baby. They were able to ID RK88 Puna, Team Billand decided to leave to keep people from noticing. When they returned, there were people who were looking over him and asked if they knew who the seal was. Team Billand shared with them a little bit about RK88, who is very tiny, green and cute!
Team Billand spotted and ID'd RIP RE74 at the 30 on their Ka'ena West Trek.

Team Billand came across RL42 Leia and RN14 Kalani together on shore. There were a HUGE amount of fishing poles set up on shore. Volunteers were there along with lots of people on the beach. Both seals were sleeping peacefully.

Back on the west-side they found a fat, green seal sleeping on mid rocks alone. (Guess who)  They got a positive ID by Ka'ale's RH32 tags.  He was the last critter they saw today.

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 11 to 2 pm today. There was a lot of snoozing going on with the three critters she spotted.

RB12 Sadie (presumably) and PO4 were hauled out behind the waterfront rocks about 10 feet to the right of the 3BS
(guess they are exploring more of the island). They spent most of their time sleeping but about 1:45 PO4 woke up and wanted to nurse, which it was still doing when she left at 2.  Marilyn still unable to determine a gender but looks like PO4's coat is beginning to lighten some.

U/J/F was on the waterfront rocks between 3BS and SRI. This seal is very green, has two tags and Marilyn is pretty sure a female belly. Her best guess is that this is one of 2018's RI pups.
