3/10/2018 Monk Seal Dailies (part 2) Lesley's Ka'ena Point Update

Madid the Ka'ena Point monitoring today.
First check was Camp Erdman to Birth Beach then off to the point.
The albatrosses were flying all over, dozens of them were in the air around the point. CHICKY and his cousins are growing fast.
At the point found RR70 "RIP" and RL12 "Aukai" hauled out all the way up on the sand @ Back Beach. Aukai is looking nice and plump and Rip very protective of her.
We did a lot of outreach and felt comfortable to move on and let one visitor pass the info to the next.
As we were doing our last checks towards the pools we saw a seal hauled out on some high reefs. From far we were able to see the neck injury and IDed R353 (F) and then did the usual photo documentation for our reports.
Today Ka'ena Points gate was open again for vehicles access but only a handful of trucks went in, mostly fishermen. Jaime was complimented by them for the signage and detours around the mud puddles.
In the afternoon Jaime and I went out to 10Mnts Beach, no seals around.

 The beautiful Aukai!
