Gayle reported two critters on Rabbit Island, one in the bushes and the other in the naupaka. Thank you Gayle for braving the cold windy and drizzly day.
At a Leeward Beach Team Billand first spotted a big seal on the rocks sleeping. They ID'd RN14 Kalani and turns out he was the only critter there all day. Off shore Team Billand got a rare glimpse not to mention photo of a school of fish jumping fast and then like magic a yellow fin tuna jumping!
Team Billand headed out to Ka'ena Point from the west side, and there they see a seal resting on the rocks, got a look at the tags and it turns out to be Lei Ola RH48. She was sound a sleep not moving so they could get a picture of her piercing. Then they noticed another seal swimming in towards Lei Ola, and it turns out to be RL42. She is huge, beautiful and so full of life. Watching her trying to get up on the rocks, her whole body rippling like a bowl of jello. She rests, moves a little higher and then rolling on her side. Team Billand spent almost 2 hours waiting for Lei Ola to roll over, but she didn't, so they enjoyed the little show Miss RL42 provided, which included a good poo.
Meanwhile Team T&D (Tammy & Dave) trekked out to Ka'ena Point from the east side. There they found Ka'ena RO40 on the rocks in the main pool.
The next critter they came across was RIP RR70 at back beach. Apparently Rip had spew just a few before they got there. ( Today was a poo & spew kinda day).
Also at back beach they found R353 with a REALLY NEW cc bite. Considering Lesley saw her yesterday and she did not have this bite, it must have happened sometime overnight. (Poor thing, that has to hurt). Eventually she headed for the water and RIP was right behind her.
