Lesley went out to the point on this beautiful summer like day. Whales were all around, Albatross chicks were walking around exploring the area around their nest. Team T&D had left before she arrived and check on RW02 PvKauai who was hauled out on the reef island of the main pool, He was the only critter out there today. Before leaving the point, Lesley checked the Waianae side till the dip but there weren't any other seals. Although a slow seal day, it was another successful outreach day.
Team Billand was out searching for seals from Ka'ena west when they spotted a seal floating in the water. They sat on a rock and stared down at the rocks and out on the water. There the seal with a cookie scar and a nic, ID'd as RIP RR70 and finally showed his N1 bleach. He wasn't doing anything but floating on the surface, then back down under a ledge to rest. He repeated this over and over.
Unfortunately they also spotted two dead turtles floating in the water, sad and spooky to see two turtles dead. RIP didn't stay too long , he left and that was the last they saw of him for the day.
On a westside beach they stopped and saw a seal taking a nap on the rocks alone. They spotted a broken tag, a little spot on his head natural bleach, a cookie scar on back and scar near fore flipper left side. They ID'd Ka'ena RO40.
Dana sent an email with pictures from Krysta Water Schenck who posted on facebook. Krysta spotted this lovely while heading out to Ka'ena from the leeward side today. Tags were shown RL42, and she's looking healthy. (thank you Krysta, and Dana)
