3/17/2018 Monk Seal Dailies: (part 2) Lesley's Ka'ena Point Update

What a beautiful and hot long day !
I took me an hour and a half to get to the point today. There was a pod of whales Mon, Calf and escort or previous year calf, going up and down the coast. They weren't breaching or slapping but there were lots of splashes and bubbles. The calf was VERY young. Then in the distance breaches and tail slaps all thru the morning.
Most of the adult albatrosses seemed to be out today, they weren't many flying or on the ground.
At the point RW02 "PVKauai" was hauled out on the reef island in the Main Pool, he rolled over in slow motion and entered the pool to cool of. To the delight of visitors he kept making bubbles.
There was a lot going on in the NARS area and a lot of outreach was made. David had a group from the Sierra Club, Jaime a group of Punahou students and I was back and forth with all and visitors.
On my drive back I did many stops to pick up trash and do more out reach. Driving by 10Mnts Beach I saw a round rock that didn't quite belong. I stopped and walked back to check.... YES it was her !!! RN58 "Luana" after being MIA for + than 2 weeks, was there sleeping peacefully. A family that comes nearly every other weeknd told me she hauled out around 9:30am and didn't move since. She's looking beautiful and round.
It was a long  and productive day.

 RW02 PvKauai
 and then there was this
I can only imagine how thrilled Lesley was
