Lesley had an early start today meeting up with Tammy. Just as she was heading out she spotted a seal hauling out at Camp Erdman point, so they met there. Seal was ID'd as RW02 PvKauai, he was here exactly a week ago, now after six days at Ka'ena Point he is back.
Their hike out to the point was very pleasant and since it was early they were nearly the only ones heading out. After checking on some of their favorite albatross chicks they made it all the way to the point.
RIP RR70 was freshly hauled out on the waterline of back beach. Due to glare, being wet and his position it took a little bit for an ID. Just as they saw his tag he turned and showed off his N1 bleach.
Lesley noted while sitting in her driveway writing her updates she say RW02 PvKauai was still at Camp Erdman Point.
Team Billand stopped at a Leeward Beach when they saw a seal coming into the area. They were able to see it was RN14 Kalani and he came in to haul out, but then there were some dolphin boats coming close to rocks. Kalani decided to go elsewhere headed out to sea, watching the boats. The boats left the area at 8:55 and shortly after Kalani RN14 hauled out for the day.
On their last check in the day he was still there, except now there were a couple of divers close by, Kalani was aware of them. When the divers finally left RN14 Kalani settled and went back to sleep.
Team Billand headed out to Ka'ena point from west side, and they first came across two seals, side by side in the little ponds, they ID'd RO40 Ka'ena and R3CU. There are lots of visitors, Barbara pauses and listens and the visitors think they are looking at sea lions. Well if that wasn't enough R3CU begins his "poop session" and the visitors went nuts. LOL wonder if the smell got to them, because they left shortly after.
Team Billand noticed a 3rd seal and turns out to be the lovely Miss Lei Ola RH48. She was well hidden behind the rocks but her tags and hook are showing. Lei Ola was behaving normal but her mouth area looks like there are a couple of sore spots, perhaps from rubbing or scraping.
When Lei Ola moved, R3CU was so excited he moved from his position (his little poop pond) to keep an eye on her. He's a mess! Ka'ena was chilling but well aware of everything going on.
Further along Team Billand walk they came across a very large fat seal, sleeping on rocks. It is RL42 blending in the rocks. She is alone for now.
Gayle had a good day, after nearly 2 months since she was hanging out on the east side beach Right Spot R016. Needless to say Gayle was happy to see her, Right Spot left about 18:45 with high tide and huge waves sent her on way.
Gayle also found Miss Kaiwi RK96 at Kokee, she's looking quite plump.
Last but not least an email from Melody, she was on her way home and decided to turn off and check white plains for any critters. Sure enough there was seal there with some signs up and the beach was crowded. Melody called the hotline and was told the lifeguards had called it in earlier the seal arrived about 3:15, Melody wasn't sure about his ID, but based on some comparisons with photos she is going with Buster V08. (If anyone has different information please feel free to share).
