03/07/2018 Monk Seal Dailies:

Today's dailies are brought to you by Gayle, Lesley and Team Billand.

Lesley did the Camp Erdman to Ka'ena Point monitoring today. Albatross were out at the point have a great time and put on a show for hikers and visitors. Chicks are growing fast and starting to wander out of their nest.
RR70 Rip & R353 were on the water line of the main pool. ( Yesterday Lesley had a report of 2 seals at the point and wondered if these were the same two.) Hikers at the point reported seeing 2 seals, halfway into the hike from the Waianae side.

Team Billand stopped at a Leeward Beach and found a seal on the rocks sleeping in front of camp. The seal was ID'd by tags RH32 (Ka'ale) all by himself.  He seems to be growing to be very independent. Sometimes it's better to have your friends around, wish he would stick with the other boys.

A second stop at a different Leeward Beach they found a seal resting in a deep sleep not moving in the least. All they could see is the scar on right fore flipper crease which is consistent with RO40 Ka'ena's markings. He's a big and robust dude.

Next they found RW02 PvKauai alone well hidden in the rocks. It took 45 minutes the animal finally showed tags and they were able to ID him. He was the only there today.

Gayle only found one critter on Rabbit Island, slow day on the east side.
