3/23/2018 Monk Seal Dailies (part 1)

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand, Gayle and a special video from my friend Mary Piller.

Team Billand found RL42 well hidden on a west side beach. They didn't stay long because there were too many people passing by and they didn't want anyone to disturb her. She is looking very healthy and plump, super plump!

Another spot on the west side they came across little miss Lei Ola RH48. She was looking around aware people were close by as well as another critter. About 20 feet away was R3CU resting peacefully.

Gayle spotted two critters on Rabbit Island today. The little one was there all day hanging out with the birds, guess the noise didn't bother it.
Next she spotted someone at Lanai Lookout this afternoon, unfortunately the position and cloudy sky didn't reveal the identity.  Could possibly be Kolohe but the tag shot is unreadable.

And once again this morning Gayle found her most favorite seal Kaiwi RK96 at the grotto. My she is looking rather large. I just hope she stays away from Kaimana and Diamond Head Beach.

Here is a video created by Mary Piller a film maker I met years ago when I went to the Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito.  Mary has covered many of the critters at the center and she did some work for the Hawaiian monk seals. This video addresses the marine debris that we all know is out there, it is heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time.  Please enjoy and know this is why we are out there looking after the seals, and cleaning up the bleaches, and trying to reduce our plastic footprint.  Mahalo.
