3/11/2018 Monk Seal Dailies (part 1 )

Today's dailies are brought to you by Gayle, Team Billand and Lesley. Lesley's complete update is dailies part 2.

Gayle found one critter on Rabbit Island today. Hard to say but appears to be an adult.

Team Billand checking out a Leeward Beach they spotted a seal foraging off shore. They were able to ID Kekoa who was fighting with another seal. Neither of them hauled out so they left the site.
When they later returned they found Kekoa up on high rock to the left and he was alone.  At this time they spotted another seal snoozing to the right on the rocks. They ID'd RN14 Kalani by reading his tag and his natural bleach on right side. He was resting peacefully.

Making a stop in Nanakuli they see a couple of signs, a volunteer was on site near the shore. Team Billand take a closer look and it looks to be Benny RE74, he had head scars, facial scars and finally his tag.  He is dry and fluffy and resting peacefully.  Of course there were the few folks that had to go up to the seal, acting like they had no idea it was there.

Team Billand also witnessed a while helicopter hovering about the water about 10 feet, not sure what was going on, but they were told by someone the chopper was there to frighten sharks from the area.  Really?

Team Billand got a call from one of their posse at Plains letting
them know a seal was hauling out. They couldn't get there right away so they called the hotline. As soon as they could they arrived on site. They meet up with volunteer Susie who asked if they had put up the signs, (they didn't) but the lifeguards had put them up. The seal was ID'd as Pohaku RO28 and she was on the Ewa Side of the fence. She is looking nice and fat and been a little bit since she visited with Team Billand.

WE had to do an errand Yesterday, when we got a call of a seal just hauling out White Plains. Since we couldnt make it, I called the hotline right away.

Later on our journey back to the beaches, we went to WHITE PLAINS, which on a sunday is crowded with HUMANS.

There on below the sand, near the fenceline was a big fat seal. I saw a cookie scar and knew immediately who this female was!!!!!!!! I cant express my JOY seeing:
POHAKU R028 resting on her side. HMAR's Susie was there protecting her and so glad she was there...THANKS SUSIE...so appreciate your work with Pohaku.

After not seeing her for so long, I see she is quite FAT, so either she is eating really well or.....SHE IS HAPAI AGAIN. She been trying to hide out from all the westside males..especially THE BENNY and BUSTER BOY.

I tried to check her out for any new markers, saw nothing, other than all those cookie cutter shark bite scars.

Wanted to stay longer to view miss pohaku, but, we had to continue on our journey.

God Bless Pohaku, we so missed her...wonder if she will continue on westerly or go back Diamond Head again. Only Miss Pohaku R028 knows that.
