Lesley went out to Ka'ena Point to today and upon arriving she spotted R3CU on Back Beach. By looking at the trails, he had spent the night near the Naupaka. There also seemed to be a fresh trail from another seal.
Looking toward the Main Beach she saw a seal floating sideways at the entrance of the pool. She waited for a longtime but the seal never popped it's head up and she didn't see it again.
Back on Back Beach RO40 Ka'ena was haulling out beside R3CU, and there was no interaction.
Lesley noted there were lots of hikers out today, mostly tourist, and more and more these visitors are hiking out well prepared and informed, which makes for more interesting Q&A.
Team Billand arrived at the Leeward Beach and they saw RK72 Kekoa just hauling up on the high rocks to left. He didn't wast anytime to hide behind the rocks, he kept looking behind himself as if there was another seal on it's way. After a while he settled down and slept the entire chilly day away.
Next find for Team Billand was on a beach on the west side. There they found RN14 Kalani on the edge of the rocks snoozing on his on today. Seems he needed his
space today.
Team Billand headed off to a few of their usual stops, even walked out to Ka'ena from the west side and found no one else. Guess all the seals have found a cozy place to hang out in this chilly windy weather, or maybe there is some good foraging with the high surf.
