3/2/2018 Monk Seal Dailies:

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand, Gayle and Lesley. Lesley's complete Ka'ena Point Update is dailies part 2.

Gayle's only find today was Kaiwi at the grotto. While there she spoke with a fisherman who had been there all along, but wasn't aware a seal was even there. As they were walking out he told her he use to talk to a guy at Makai pier (yes that would be our DB) he was sad to hear when Gayle told him the news.

Team Billand found RW02 PvKauai on shore at Nanakuli, they put up sticks. There were some folks around looking for shells or hanging on the beach, Team Billand spent time talking with them about seals.  They were all appreciative for the information, so much so that when the tourist were arriving the locals were now explaining what they just learned to them.  As it should be sharing, and passing along the information for all to learn. One local lady said he should have the name "Kili Nahe" meaning calmness or gentle. Sounds nice, but we already know him as PvKauai.

Team Billand another seal coming in, checking out RW02 and then galumphing right up to him. After greeting each other both seals went to sleep in peace. Team Billand called the hotline to report.  They did spot two more seals off shore foraging, going right then losing sight of them. On their last check around 3:15 both seals remained on shore with volunteer that had arrived.

Team Billand's next stop was at a Leeward Beach where two seals were already up on lower rocks together snoozing. Both dry, they could have been the 2 off shore at Nanakuli and came here to sleep the day away. The seals were ID'd as Benny RE74 and Kalani RN14. Later in the afternoon on their 3rd check both were still there resting. Of course their new found mascot Aflac was back.

Another stop to a Westside Beach they found Lei Ola RH48 glistening in the sun with a misty rain falling on her and the rocks. She is still hooked, but resting peacefully not bothered by anyone or anything. Team Billand left the site to not draw attention to her and her nice white belly. :-)
